Just wondering 🤔 if anyone has played with 108-110 grain projectiles 30 caliber built on J4 0.925” long jackets. And a 7-8 ogive point up die. Or even lighter ones?
Just curious as l have a 30 Grendel and want to play with some lighter ones to see if they shoot any better than 114-115 grain projectiles.
Thank you for your replys

I never found any of the custom bullets from name makers between 108 and 116 that did not shoot. I used them out to and including 500yds.

Once upon a time, I made a few .30 Cal., as light as 95 Gr.: .925" J4/; 7 caliber [tangent] ogive x .062 K-O pin, Niemi die.
I was not enthralled by anything under 100 Gr., and, for a safety-net, stayed with the 112 Gr. weight: with the Niemi die, this insured against
core slippage & jacket collapse.

You'll be best served by experimenting to determine what works best with your tools/dies. AND, you'll enjoy the experience, while learning by experience as opposed to hearsay & "monkey see, monkey do". ;) RG

I've been shooting the 30 Grendel (30 Major) for quite some time. Started with 118 gn Cheeks over 31.8 gn H4198 (compressed load) in VFS
matches. Ran out of Cheeks bullets and switched to 115 gn Bergers over 31.0 gn of H4198 at around 2900 fps on Garmin. Jim Cline (Tack Driver
match director) makes a 108 gn FB which I'm planning on shooting at TD 6 in November. I'm up to 31.5 gn of N-130 showing today at
knocking on 2900 fps shooting Jims bullets. I think I can get 32.0 gn of N-130 in my cases without compressing the powder column too much. I'm about out of 4198 and have shot a lot bullets at 31.8 gn without any signs of pressure in no turn Lapua brass. ALPHA Brass makes a 6.5 Grendel case, and I bought 100 cases, but I will have to turn the necks down a bit. I need to process 200 cases of Lapua brass that I fire formed
with 6.5 mm bullets in FF barrel before the TD 6, second firing should fill out the shoulders.

N-130 is cheaper than H4198 too and performs very well in the 30 Grendel with 108 grain bullets and the thread writer was asking
about the 30 Grendel with lighter bullets, not the availability of H4198. I just tried to answer his original question having had several
30 Grendel barrels worn out.

In my experience the .925 jacket was the ticket for the early reamers, Robinette, giving more consistent results than those on longer jackets.
