Insurance ?

Every state has an insurance commissioner or something similar that sets the rules for that state on policies. So what state farm does in one state does not necessarily apply in another so a nationwide call like this will result in lot of misinformation maybe as it applies in your state. Most insurance companies limit coverage on firearms, cash and colletctibles UNLESS you buy a rider specificially listing each item. Most companies charge around $15-20 per $1000 coverage.

Understand also, it does not matter what the agent tells you! It only matters what is specifically written in the policy. READ the policy and it says what it says. The policy specifically says it will only pay as the policy is written and nothing else unless modifiedy by an "Executive of the Company.. The agent is not an exec of the company. Do not allow the agent to talk you into believing something else. You could sue the agent later for "errors and omissions" if he told you something wrong and if he had any money or errors and omissions insurance coverage himself. If the agent tries to convince you of something, ask him to put it in writing!

I have State Farm and I contacted my agent. I only opted for a basic contents policy as I am still renting.
Here are his replies
"The policy comes with a limit of $2500 for guns and this limit is for the peril of theft. If your house burns down and you have say $7500 of guns they will cover that amount. The limit is just for theft. We can increase the $2500 limit for theft to $5000 if you wish. It’s about $ 12 per year to do this. They do limit the amount per each gun to $2500 under the theft coverage. So if you had only 1 gun stolen and it was valued at $3500 they would only pay the maximum of $2500"
"The total limit for all guns stolen would be $5000 with a per gun limit of $2500. The normal deductible would apply ($500). The policy is for replacement cost, so we would pay the current new price for the gun. If it’s an out of production gun they go by the average price it could be purchased for.
If you have an antique or high-dollar gun we can always write it on its own separate policy. It’s the same type policy that we put jewelry on if a person has a lot."

I was always told warm moisture laden air rises rather than sinks. Still, if it works for you.....

huhhh???

Teachable moment;

Sometimes what you hear differs from what IS...

Over here in the colonies people actually heat their huts using ceiling heat

circulation, convection, temp/press differential,

air moves

alinwa,

I like your idea of a poured concrete vault, but I'm curious about what you are using for a door and locking system.

Al, shhhhhh.
One O them no good scoundrels will get the idea and then try to get for discharging weapons inside the city limits.;)

One thing to look for in vault doors is to make sure there's an escape latch on the inside that a kid can work to get out.
