I have never tried this method...have you?

Boyd I too use the split neck method but also put Dykem on the bullet to make sure it's making contact. I then repeat that three or four times to make sure I am getting the correct measurement. I never thought about putting a clamp on the neck, I might try that sometime. Just have to fab something up.
 
I'm sure nobody is going to beat anyone Wilbur.

Here is an example. This barrel wants to be between .005" off (red) and .007" off (blue). We use the method in the video to keep them there.

Sorry Boyd, I only test at 1000 for my 1k benchrest guns. Some of the guys can get em competitive tuning at shorter range. But I'm a firm believer of data and confirmation all at the same time.
