How important is this

Doesn't matter Bill.

If the slope, or ditch, or anything involved is by any means too much for now, the competitors will figure it out in a couple of matches and all will be well. I remember having to put guy wires (guy strings) on a couple of really tall flag poles at Reidsville, NC to keep them from breaking. They filled in that ditch some (if I remember correctly) but it still needed a fairly tall flag pole. I'm using past tense here because that's all I know....

Wilbur, the Rock is flat as a table now after 3 or 4 fillings of the ditch, it really changed the nature of the range, took some of the nasty out of it, :) but it can still be tough!

That's good to hear Steve! Golly...How much dirt did it take to fill that ditch? I can't imagine the Reidsville range flat...

The Prince Memorial range is flat out to 600 yards. We shoot a 300 yd match and a 600 yd match each month and the mirage can be tough at times. James

I was just remembering

you described 90% of the conditions at Webster City.
David

that Webster City was flat. I think Holton, Mi is also but could be wrong.

We held a couple of matches at a range here in Maine that was flat out to 300. In a tiny town, concrete benches and a great shooting platform, all built by a Contractor member, I was told. They didn't like our tying up their range, all 30 members so we did not continue there but it was a nice range. They ruined it though after they decided against us. Moved a 50yd berm half way across the range. Out, Out Benchrest pukes!

Canastota , now lost, was dead flat. There were a couple IBS 200-300yd nationals there that were tough, however, wet ground and mirage at 300 yards that would impress anybody. Pickers got murdered.

At Reidsville as I remember is where Allen Arnette had one flag stand with guy wires on it for stability.

I also remember CCBW and HFV shooting with unsized case necks and almost winning.
