I thought I would share with you all, some of the exciting things that are happening at Holton Gun and Bow Club.
Some of you may know that Bob Scarborough jr has taken the position of NBRSA match director at Holton. In the short time that Bob has taken over this position he has brought some very well thought out proposals to the Membership of the club. And the Membership has gotten on board with what Bob has been thinking about for some time. So, we have made a plan for some much needed range improvements. Here is what the big picture will look like:
Level the range so flags can be set at a consistant level from one end of the range to the other.
Straighten the range out. Those that have shot at Holton know that we currently have a funnel that does not allow you to shoot straight from 100yds to 200yds. This should help speed up the flag setting process while changing yardages.
After the range has been leveled we will reseed and try to get some more plant life on the range. This combined with raising the backers a little should make a vast improvement with the Mirage issues that Holton has become so Famous for.
Add 10 benches to the East side of the range. This will give us a total of 40 benches. This should put Holton in a much better position to hold a large tournament.
All told, this will most likely be a 2 year process but we will be getting started this year. I think Bruce Torrey was an excellent match director before Bob and Arlene Inman did a great job before Bruce. Now I think with Bob at point Holton will start to become a more nationally recognized range.
Wish us luck.
Matt Guthrie.
