Had a customer bring in a bbl'd action. The bbl was not a brand I was familiar with, but looking on the internet has a following. He wanted the bbl threaded for a brake. Anyway, was turning to the major dia with HS and hit a hard spot, enough to dull the tool. Went to carbide and was able to finish the dia. Went to thread with a carbide insert and could not get through it with a good thread, ruined the insert. I cut off a half inch and everything went well. Also looking at the bore spinning in the lathe it is crooked as a dogs hind leg. I have shot bbls that had some loop in them and they were fine shooters. But this was really bad.
It will be interesting to see how he gets along with it. He showed me the test targets that was shot with this rifle. Not by him, but the company that had barreled the action. They were in the zeroes. I really have to question that.

Just for info, rem varmint contour, 223 rem, Tac-30 action

Hard spots

no..........not in rifle barrels........but common steels and more often in cast metal.
