Greatest Canada/US Rivalry

Sport watched

The wife n I spent the most time watching Curling, never paid much notice of it till this Olympics. A strangley addictive sport to watch:eek: The USA teams had quite afew Minnesotans on them:D:p:D

Yah just

Were not both teams, (and the Russians, for that matter), made up of NHL Stars who play against one another all the time. Sort of like an international "shirts against skins" game.

I am more impressed with the 4-man Bobsled Team. Some enterprising Americans, (how about some ex NASCAR Drivers), said, "why can't we do this as god as the Germans". So, they got out the rule book, figured out what it would take to win, and did it. High tech engineering, and thousands of hours of work paid off.

Did you get a look at those guys. They packed about as much "poundage" into that sled as the room would allow. In short, the Americans beat the more traditional powers at their own game.........jackie

as your Lindsey Vonn has been doing in Downhill. What a great down to earth girl. I loved the interview CTV did with her and ?????? I cannot remember the other name, her US rival??????

Roger I took a week of vacation to watch the first week on CTV, Rogers Sports Net and TSN up here in Canada. I will tell you the coverage we got up here was UNBELIEVABLE. The interviews with the athletes and being able to watch a bit of every winter sport.
Yes the curling as well. I would like to say I think it is Canada's game as well.
The shot making was phenominal. Yes it may be dry at times to watch but the precision that these men and woman can throw a 40 lb stone approx 120 feet and put it on the button, or play angles to make doubles or triples is amazing. I used to curl but have not for about 8 years and I will tell you it is not that easy to pull that off. Brushing, what a heart attackwaiting to happen....

I felt a little sad when the US Hockey team members were awarded their medals. Not a smile in the lot.

I think what was sad was that winning a silver medal and placing second in the world did not bring joy to them... it seemed all they were thinking was they lost.

They were not losers, they played their hearts out and won a silver. That game could have gone either way in a second. They deserve respect for that and I hope they become proud of their effort and accomplishment.

Ya know 1 of the TV announcers had an interview with a sports psycologist made a comment about silver medal winners. the jest of it was that silver medal winners thought/felt that they deserverd the Gold and were dissapointed that the recieved Silver,BUT the Bronze medal winners were as/more happy than the Gold medal winners (because they RECIEVED a medal). This was across sports not just hockey. To compete at that level is an AWESOME acheivement in itself IMHO.

My wifes Aunt lives in Vancouver (sp) .We are waiting to hear/see some of her pictures/stories (she's a writer). As for the brushers all the HARD work and little of the glory it seems. I admit I was waiting for a brusher to do a FACEPLANT they were pushing so hard:eek:

Ok......

Here's what I saw :)

These guys had just played their guts out, two GREAT teams in the biggest game of their lives...... and the losers were expected to wind down and take medals ten minutes later?? On the steenking ice?? and SMILE??? Still on the adrenaline shakes? I actually thought Miller was possibly the most articulate hockey player I've ever seen! Let alone he'd just let the biggest puck in his life go by...... And he was perty gentlemanly about it in his interview. I'da' prolly spit on the news guy's foot. These players don't even get to go to the lockers and beat each other up before the smooth guy stuffs a mic in their faces.

I guess I understand what they were feeling..... at that moment.

And I'm furthermore forevermore convinced that not one person in that game will ever feel bummed in the long term.

Yeah the men's team didn't smile much but that's kind of expected.

Now, when the woman's team didn't get gold it was a down right pout, big lip and everything.

I'd like to think our (Canadian) teams would be different but realistically ....

However I was surprised how well our woman's curling skip did in front of the cameras after she lost it for us.

When she apologized to her team mates they said she had saved them so many times they would not have the silver if it had not been for her... that brought tears from her...

It is amazing how things in life as simple as sports games affect so many people in so many ways.. I have never understood why a game can be so important to so many. (Soccer in particular)

It is

also amazing how these athletes seem to care and apologize to there country for letting them down.

Damn Media.........

They compete for the love of the sport for themselves first and not there country. Melissa Hollingsworth a prime example. She bawled her eyes out for letting Canada down and not placing on the podium. She is the Queen in the world cup skeleton this year.

She could have turned that around when Sid the Kid hit her with a ping pong ball. She said in an interview she got tongue tied when she realized it was him and ran............ Poor girl might have missed the moment.....

The COUGAR Cheryl Bernard did WELL for her teammates. Imagine what could have been if she finished on top..............
