Any person that comes to this website for the first time is most likely coming here for information about benchrest shooting. The home page has a tab "how to get started in Benchrest" and it's just a link to NBRSA rules and bylaws. Boring:sleep:

How about a page that explains what benchrest is and the different types of benchrest. Have a short explanation about score, group, rimfire and long range with links to the different organizations. The way the page is set up now has alienated half the country because there is more out there that just NBRSA. It's traffic that you want so be sure to discuss all benchrest shooting including UBR, IBS, Freedom Benchrest, ARA, ABRA

Many short range shooters have moved over to long range so don't forget to bring them aboard also. Maybe have some articles written about some of the bigger long range benchrest matches that are going on and post the articles for everyone to see. This can also be done for short range.

People have a quest for information and knowledge --- that is what will revive Benchrest Central.

...

Just my humble opinion but, not to long ago, there were times when a post was made and questions asked and some folks that thought they "KNEW EVERYTHYING" ran the poster down. Been better over the years but getting jumped on for asking a question will lose followers REAL FAST.

Thanks for the comments; hopefully, they can be implemented.

Whomever would like to contribute a write-up about the topics mentioned in the second and third paragraphs in the first quote above, for inclusion in a revised "How to Get Started in Benchrest" page, please do so and send it to me — I'll see about getting it posted on that page.

BTW, take a look at that revised page at https://benchrest.com/?page_id=51, but remember, it's a work in progress.

The hoped-for revival of this forum doesn't seem to have resonated with folks. As of now, only 30 folks (including me) have posted on the non-humor threads this month. Is this forum on its last legs? Any suggestions for reviving interest in the forum?

Sad to say, but I think forums are on their way out, though there seem to be exceptions. It's hard to compete with the rapid cycle of approbation of (anti)social media.

I'd certainly stay the course in discouraging threads that disparage new members, of any stripe, but beyond that, I don't know what might save the forum.

There is a SECRET PRIVATE FB site. That's where everyone has gone. Match scores and other stuff. Mostly, now it's a "LOOK AT ME" site. Nothing new. Just look at my cool stuff.......Or my dog, or my cool whatever......
And there is Accurate Shooter. That's a good site. HUGE amount of info. I just look at the Daily Bulletin site. Every Monday, there is a "Sale Ad" thing there. Off the the left of site is a list of Caliber Specific articles.....
And there is a lot of competition for BR stuff on other FB sites.

I'll die a happier man knowing I don't use Face Book. I use to use Savage Shooters quite
a bit but the owner just said it was time to end it. I spend most of my gun related issues
on AS. I guess that all evolved from knowing a lot of the shooters. You do have to be care-
full and real direct when posting up a new topic. Too many separate disciplines there, and
before you know it your at 6 pages, and way off the intended subject matter......I use to
check out the old site back before I left the combat pistol arena and melted more into BR
using nothing but my custom engineered one offs. Finally joined this site since it had basically
one set of roots. Where are all the BR shooters that used to hang out here when it was
original. I'll see Nyhus and Robinette, but there should be a couple hundred more like em'
being somewhat active here.

I'm puzzled about the 'SECRET PRIVATE FB site' reference.

There's nothing secret or private about it. Facebook has 'Groups' that are specific to an area of interest. Drag racing, water skiing...heck my daughter is on one called Back Yard Chickens that's for people in towns that keep chickens.

If someone wants to join a FB Group, you just click 'Join'. Depending on the Group, some accept the request right away...some may take a day or two to process the request.

I know one of the Administrators of that FB site. He's an avid BR competitor and a good person. I'm a member of the Group but not particularly active.

Hope this helps. -Al

So if it's not a secret site. How is it that, when I do a search, there are no results????

Secret. Private. Same difference.

I just wanted to see the scores. And it went dark....The first time.

Perhaps if a good thread was started like the bullet making thread it would draw some interest and snowball from there.
There was a long bullet making thread on either here or the other site that ran all winter. Interesting for those who make bullets but for those of us who don't and don't want to, not very interesting.

There isn't a lot new in Benchrest. We are limited to powder choices we can buy that our various chamberings will use well and the bullets we are fortunate enough to buy. Not much new to talk about, really or at least that's what I see.

Sounds like your ISP is blocked and it's refusing access from that ISP number.

Gotta' be more to the story...........

Following up on post ## 2 and 7 above, I'm hereby offering everyone who's in a gun-related business a 30-day FREE banner ad that will display at the top of each page and can include a link to your website (see https://benchrest.com/?page_id=70) in return for them posting at least one good thread or post related to benchrest — e.g., something that will attract interest of the benchrest community (I'll decide whether the post qualifies), and that offer will renew for subsequent 30-day periods for everyone who accepts the offer.

Let me know if you're interested.

Not sure what issues you’re having but there’s nothing secret about it. Join. Read. Post.

Thinking about this thread match results here might spark some interest. I don't know people stopped putting them here

George, some match reports (typically club matches) are posted here; however, sadly, a lot of match reports don't get posted here. To the extent that I see such reports elsewhere I'll try to post a link to them (unless it's to a site where I'm not a member).

BTW, are you in a gun-related business? If so, look at post # 13 above.

In my mind, 100,200,300 yard "group" and "score" shooting always seemed the
bread and butter of BR. Maybe a more focused topic structure for each to draw
the eye's attention for a login, and not just seeing "Competition BR". I see Speedy
chimed in about getting some new designed cases developed. This site needs more
of that to get a snowball effect rolling.......Well my monolithic bullet work is in it's
incubation stages for the short games, so hope that encourages something. Yinz
just have to live with a 7mm for the time being. Who knows, I just might what to
try a stubby rebated boat tail 30 cal bullet that only weighs 80 grain, using Speedy's
case......It's only money......

I think the way the humor thread was handled may have driven a few people away

Thanks I am in the business but have never advertised just word of mouth, and at this late stage I don't really see a need. But Thanks
