Keith, it's nice to see the Rush boys get credit where credit is most certainly due!

May I add to your bassist list the great player by the name of John Entwistle?
 
I don't post much ... just enjoy everyone else's thoughts, but, I couldn't help it with this thread.

This is a great thread and have enjoyed everybodies choice of music. I like most anything blues and progressive rock the most (Tull, Kansas, Moody Blues etc.) but you guys aren't going back far enough.

I can't believe they have not been inducted into the Rock N Roll hall of fame. Somebody must be anti-Canadian. I know Peart lives in Cali but nor sure on Lee or Lifeson.

That is a total injustice for sure. I have no respect for the R&RHOF decision makers.
 
Hey, while we're talking Rush among fans here, I want to share with you guys something you may not know of. I learned this two years ago and it was one of those music moments I won't ever forget. I found out that Rush actually made an album in between their first album and Fly By Night. It was a live recorded album (in the first city that let them have a concert--Cleveland) with some new stuff, some stuff off the first album, some stuff from the yet unreleased third album, some covers, and it's the first recordings of Rush with their new drummer--Neil Peart. If you remember, John Rutsey was their original drummer but had to leave the band after the first album due to health problems. So they cut some new tracks and made an album that was never officially released called, "Fifth Order Of Angels". Check it out. The whole album can be found in the suggested videos or at the uploader's youtube page (mrrush1974).

When they played in Cleveland were they the back-up band for Kiss? I know Gene Simmons helped those guys out here in the states. Can you imagine watching the pure talent of Rush and then KISS comes on stage! I think Simmons had alot of respect for them because they were not druggies.
 
I just listened to those song. Its amazing that Geddy even back then was wailing on his Rick.

As good a studio band as these guys were, nothing beat seeing them live. I saw them just a couple of years before Terry Kath's tragic death from an accidental gunshot after he had cleaned his 9mm semi-auto handgun. Terry's guitar had the neck taped together with silver racers tape...amazing. To me this is probably their best work:

After Kath's death, Peter Cetera led the band down the road to all the schmaltzy, sickly sweet Top 40 gagging stuff that many remember..sad. In the beginning, Chicago was a hard edged blues/rock band. Here's one of their earliest works that shows where they came from. Jimmy Hendicks once said that Terry Kath was the best guitarist he'd ever seen. :eek:

You're right Keith. They toured with Kiss for quite awhile. During that time, Kiss invited the boys to come and party with groupies and druggies after each show, but Rush always turned them down. Lifeson and Lee would go back to the hotel and practice and write new stuff while Peart would go to the local library and read about all kinds of stuff to use for lyrics! After a few shows, word of the odd aftershow behavior got out, and some of the Kiss fans would have signs that said something about "dining on honeydew and drinking the milk of paradise" as a little jab to the band. But they would always come back with some new lyric that shot right over the heads of the Kiss fans who were used to one sentence lyrics repeated 30 times during a song!

Al, if you can "mellow" to Green Grass and High Tides, you must be an energetic man! That song (well at least the last half)is fast and furious guitar shredding!
