Almost as cool as rotary broaching. How much does the square hole cutter cost and what materials/sizes will they cut? How hard would it be on a Bridgeport or a lathe?
That is very kewl. I'd never seen anything like it. I did see some half hole drills from Seco that were videoed running on their site. Might still be there.
They did half holes in 50 something rc 4340 steel, and regular drilling in the same material with indexable carbide drills that were amazing. You can just hear this is some miserable stuff to deal with. Better have yer ear protection in for that!
Some of their milling videos are interesting too. Working with hardened materials and such. Seems they also show an Okuma lathe running brake rotors with solid cbn's on there at some astronomical surface speed/feed. That's something to see too. I have a buddy that now sells for Seco, and he turned me on to some of the vids.
Thanks for the one on the square hole drill. That's something
Looks like a cross between a Wankel and the single bladed windshield wiper on a Mercedes. Monkey motion at its best. Is this an example of thinking INSIDE the box? Terrific!
