Do Benchrest Shooters Need High Scores?

Having shot other benchrest targets in competition, the World target is my favorite. Since we all use the same target, scores are relative
from shooter to shooter, club to club. Having the internationals and postals available using this target is a plus. Local clubs still have the
option to use whatever target they wish for local shoots.

I'm with Mike!

The other day at one of our IR 50/50 matches a fellow who has shot his fair share of ABGR targets, and even had managed to pull off a few 250's while doing so, commented about how he didn't like the WRABF targets. When I asked why not, he proceeded to say they were too hard. Can you believe that? I mean, here's a guy who has not only shot multiple 250's in airgun, but who has also shot his fair share in the IR 50/50 game. And he wants an easier target??? I guess in his case it must be a matter of self-gratification when he goes to an event. Although, if you knew the man you would never believe that to be the case at all.

The biggest thing is: when we all sit down to shoot a target, whether it be at the Club Level or International competition, that we are all shooting under the same rules, at the same target and for the same amount of time.

Personally, I love both the 25M and 50Y WRABF Targets as they are one of the most challenging I have yet to see. And there is not a thing wrong with the way the International Rules have been set up - that is so long as we, or any other country, can adjust around the 2 fixed Classes (LV and HV-B) to better suite our needs.

Great job Gentlemen!

I don't know if it's self gratification, but he is right when it comes to the 50m target shot at 50yards with an Air Rifle shooting at 765fps with a 13.4 grain pellet with light to moderate switchy winds. On a calm morning it's doable with an adequate score.
I'm not complaining it is what it is. The rifle is setup for sub 20fpe and it's not going to be fooled with.

The 25m target is a hoot to shoot and remains challenging. I'm not aware of the International Teams shooting The 50m target in Air Rifle competition. I wonder how many of you have shot the 50m target outside and how did you fair? If your shooting consistently in the mid 220's- 230's at 25m your in for a real treat at 50 yards.

Joe

Joe,

My friend wasn't talking about shooting at 50Y, he's moaning about how tough it is at 25Y, and INDOORS at that as I don't think he's ever shot the WRABF target Outdoors yet, or even at 25M Indoors or Out. Plus, I know he has only shot it when using a full-blown FAC powered rig, so he has no idea of what's ahead of him once he gets tuned down to under 20FPE. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy and a very good benchrest shooter, so this surprised me to hear him complain about the target being tough.

I like the International target for the reasons already stated. It aligns us with the rest of the world, scores can be compared, records will be standardized, difficult enough to allow room for improvement, easy access to targets, scored like other international targets. Hey, if you drop a point you can still claw your way back into contention unlike some RF where if you don't have a 250 you may as well pack up and go home.
