Delrin Barrel Sleeves

I have a Jay Young Rail, and I am waiting for a new barrel to arrive, and was thinking about how many rail guns I see at matches with Delrin sleeves in the V block. My question is if you make one of these sleeves do you have to remove material from the inside of the V block? Would flat pieces of delrin sheet cut to the internal dimension of the V block work?

You don't use a Delrin sleeve in a V Block. You have to get a barrel block with a round bore that is about 3/16 to 1/4 to the side larger than your barrel. It will use a sleeve with just enough ID clearance to barley slip over the barrel.

I think I have a round Barrel Block for a Young Rail. I bought it several years ago at a swap meet. I think it has a 1 3/4 bore.

Barrel block

I looks something like this.

Thank you for the information, Jackie now that you mentioned it and in thinking back the railguns I saw were all round holes. The new barrel I ordered is 1.350, if you find that block, and your interested in selling it let me know. I am not sure if it will improve the rail, because there are still a good number of shooters that don’t use the sleeves and their rails are still shooting as well as those with the sleeves.

Gary,

I padded each face of one of my Vee blocks with 1/16" nylon strips, and practicing 3 weeks ago shot a .1212 100 yard agg. with the set up. These were 5 shot groups, and I think it was the best 100 yard agg. the rig had shot.
Go figure, I guess it helped!

Steve, thanks for weighing in on your modification. I think that there is value in either a sleeve or padding the V-block. I have some 3/16’ nylon sheeting and I will try that first.

Thank You
