Davidson base extension

I don't like the scope position on one of my rifles. Can anyone steer me to an aluminum one-piece extension which will slide onto my existing two-piece bases allowing me to raise and reposition my scope?

thanks

Some one used to make an extension that raised that scope about 1/2in. I believe they also made one that tilted it to the side also. It may have been in PS mag long ago.

Al you might try Sinclair,if they dont have it they can steer you in the right direction.kenny

Davidson extension

Wally Hart has an offset scope mount that fits the Davidson base. It raises the scope and provides an offset.

PS-- I used it to shoot right handed but using my left eye after an accident. Since it is made of aliminum I was able to modify it to adjust the offset to suite me.

There are some long "Picatinny" rails that are designed to raise scopes on flat top AR's that raise the scope and the long ones all the scope to be put farther forward or backward by quite a ways. Of course you have to have Picatinny or Weaver bases to clamp the rail to. Brownells has them.

I know what you asked for exists as I have seen them on rifles. But when I could not find the source I just ordered the tall Kelbly rings, they are available in both one inch and 30mm ..

Progress so far:

nil :)

No joy at Kelbly's, Sinclair or Hoehn although Kelbly's have set me up with a guy who can make it provided we can come up with a design.... Am I gonna' have to shoot with my Hood Scope Checker installed?? Maybe I should just call Charlie!

Dick, here's the problem with just ordering rings..... I'd like to pick up 1/2" of rearward travel from the scope because my butt's too long and has weights attached to the AL buttplate. I can't just whack it off. Plus, my hand position is fine, I'm just tired of craning my neck.

Now an OFFSET ring (like extended, front or rear) would be nice and would work OK but I'd need both of them to offset........and this setup would be even harder on the base screws.

BTW I will be epoxy welding the existing bases to the top of the action. I don't trust those itty-bitty screws as it is...

Has anyone been over to Charlie Hoods site lately? He's come up with ANOTHER completely unique product! Now mebbeso I'm behind the times here because I though I already HAD at least one of every Hood product........ but this bullet puller for the Davidson tool????

The San Gabriel guys have them on their Rails. I suppose they're all headed for the Cactus? I have seen them in Hart's catalog and Kinneman's I think?

Al, I have a couple of rifles with the scope mounted on the barrel block. That means the "base" is cantileverd back over the action. Since no base is that long, I use a long piece of aluminum stock, and mount a flat-bottom universal Davidson base to it. Available from Sinclairs . . .

If you don't have a flat-topped action, you could have someone mill the existing bases to take a flat bottom base. The Sinclair part number is DKB-12 -- or DKB-13 or BKB-14, for 1/2, 3/8 or 3/4-inch thick base. Personally, I use the 3/4 inch base. These are 7 inches long, BTW, so if you use the existing bases milled, you likely wouldn't need an intervening piece of aluminum like I do when mounting to a barrel block. Price for the base is (was) a little less than $25.00

Charlie also has....

a one piece bullet puller, nothing else needed. I'm not sure he still makes them and he'll probably cuss me out for mentioning it, but he has a easy to use screw type, fits in your tool box and works like anything else Mr. Hood makes.....GREAT. NO DAVIDSON vise needed.

Just don't mention "Snuffy":D
