Choice between an FN or Springfield for build

As I was the fellow who started this thread, I guess it is time to respond to a few things mentioned.

1. I really agree that the whole tacti-cool thing has been out of control for about 3 years or more. I am not a subscriber, and seem to notice more and more swat wannabees, or posers at the matches. They seem more taken with buying the most recent tacti-cool gadgets rather than practicing the basics.
2. I am a target shooter. I seldom hunt anymore, and after carrying a gun at work for about 25 years, and not in any hurry to shoot anyone.
3. The recommendations of other actions rather than the old FN (the action probably dates from the 1930's to 1950's) or springfield mauser type action were simply suggesting that I would get more performance for less money if I used a Remington or other newer type action. Good advice considering lock times and other factors. Many of the newer actions like Stiller, Surgeon and so on already have the action done. That may actually save money rather than an attempt to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear with the FN/Springfield actions. Both FN/Springfield would make dandy hunting rifles, but I am looking to build a rifle suitable for long range target shooting. Specifically 600-1000yard F-class, or the long range precision practical rifle matches where targets are different sizes at unknown ranges and real accuracy is certainly an advantage. At 800 yards a rifle that shoots .25 inche at 100 yards (4 inches at 800) is a big advantage over a rifle that shoots 1 inch at 100 yards (8 at 800), especially when the plate is only 10 inches across.
4. The barrels I ordered were from Obermeyer in 30 caliber (because I already have 3 rifles in 308) and 6.5mm because I have ordered another rifle in that caliber and would like to build another bolt gun for long distance at some point. Probably 6.5x285, 260AI, or 6.5/308AI (the last two are very close). In any case, the points made were that there are better actions available for this type of build than those I originally suggested.
5. The actions were offered to me as a gift, so I thought I would get input on whether or not they were worth having work done on them. My belief at this point is that they are not worth putting the work into for what I want in the end. If I wanted a hunting rifle, they would be fine.
And thanks all of you for your input and time. I really enjoy advice that is well thought out, and useful.
