I have a 6.5mm Kreiger barrel with a 1:8 twist chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua.

I will be ordering a new barrel, but would like to chamber it in 6.5 BR.

Has anyone done this?

Is it worth the trouble?

Thanks

Roy

I have never chambered one but would think you would have to limit yourself to 120 to 130 gr bullets and obtain a barrel with the right twist for those bullets and the right throat length for same. A modified version of the 6br necked up would give a little extra hp that couldn't hurt.

I have been using a 6.5 BR and 6.5 Grendel......

for a long time now. Your problem will be getting good Benchreat quality bullets. I make my own in 82 gr BT. They are superb!! J4 had some jackets, but they said they were not going to make any more. They were .860 length. I found the 6.5 Grendel to be better than the BR, probably because my BR reamer and die reamer are not as well matched. Barrel twist should be 15 for proper Benchrest stability and accuracy. Good luck.

As the man said, your problem will be bullets. The .25 BR is superb chambeing. Times past, there were very good Fowler bullets for it, then the quality of the .250 J4 jackets took a hit. Now, the quality is back, and people like R.G. Robinett are making great .25-caiber bullets. .264 isn't very far from .257: conclusion, it should be a great round. Except for finding bullets.

Charles, someone needs to get the Dave and Jeff cartel to run a batch of 25's.

I have 500 or so Fowler (made by Jef) .25 cal bullets. They are superb shooters in a .257 Roberts.

I still have about 900 of the 110 FB Fowlers. For those of you who don't know it, R.G. Robinett has always had a fondness for the quarter bore. People who use his .25s swear by them. If I ever haul out the .25/06 again, I'll be sure to shoot them along side the Fowlers. I bet they do better -- no disparaging of Jef, just an improvement in the new Neimi die. And Randy pulls the handle himself . . .

I suppose this can be seen a a shameless plug of Randy's bullets. I prefer to think of it as a public service announcement -- only custom .25s I know of now that Jef's passed, and Tooley & Summers are hoarding the .25 dies.
