Can H322 and similar speed burn rate rifle powders........

hmmm, interesting question.
I have no idea! But I think 322 and the like are designed to burn at higher pressures than shottygun stuff...

Al, are you thinking that the powder wont burn complete or cleanly at very low shotgun pressure rates?
I am not too worried about excess powder fouling or incomplete burnt kernels, might just mean a little more barrel cleaning after using.....................Don
In our 12ga FH work we use some rifle powders in 12ga,
and the limitation is dependable ignition with shotgun primers in that
diameter of powder charge. H322 won't ignite dependably.
You can use VV110, IMR4759, IMR 4227, RE17 with slugs and
a good roll crimp on plastic cases and tight fit on brass 12ga cases.
On other slower powders you can use shotgun powder as starter powders.

yeahh,
I've found that "burn rates" can swap around depending on conditions.... I just don't know what a rifle powder will do in that rapidly expanding environment. I'm not saying "detonation" nor nuttin, it might go out just as like..... but you know..... you're an engineering sort.
I just don't know.
Doesn't mean I wouldn't try it! In a 50.00 breakopen lashed to a tire. (notice I said "lashed to a tire" not "tied to a tree" or "propped a'gin the fence"....... been there before

Ballpark, using shotgun powders as a starter for H322, what percentage would you use, would 10 percent be a good starting point?..........Don
