6mm bullets
Hornet -
Howdy !
I too am trying out a whole host of 6mm bullets, in my 6mm wildcat
case ( " Deep 6 " ).
Since I shoot paper and reactive targets out to 500, I have gone to use of
bullets in the 88 -107gr range.
For my last shoot in Graham TX, I went in w/ Berger 95s.
Berger 88 proved too flighty in " wind ".
Do you wt-sort your bullets, or sort by base to ogive length; etc ?
I do, and here's what my experience has been:
Sierra 95s were more weight consistent ( less total wt span per each box ) than were the Bergers ( 88s, 90s, 95s, 105s ).
THE most consistent weight bullet proved to be the banal Sierra 85 HPBTs.
Over three boxes of these 85s weighed, I only saw a total wt span of .3gr
variance ! In comparison, the Bergers showed me .7gr total span per box
( 88s and 95s ), and 95 and 107 Sierras showed .5gr total wt span per box.
The Sierra 85s also proved to be the best grouping bullet ( 100yd ) of all the 6mm bullets I tried ( including many customs ). So, I'm persuaded that there is something to this wt sorting business.
I'm preppin' for another shoot @ GRAHAM, and am considering going back there w/ the rest of the box of Berger 95s. I have the remaining Begrer 95s already wt-sorted. Once I shoot these, I'm going to try out the 105 "A"-Max.
Given the wind here, I doubt I' lleven shoot the ( lighter ) Berger 90s.
My point:
If you don't already sort your bullets, you might want to reconsider.
Especially if you are not shooting a gazillion shots per each type of match YOU shoot.
Bullet wt consistency might vary well become one of you primary bullet selection criteria. It certainly has for me !
Best of luck in your endeavors.
