I am shooting a 6BR with 95gr Berger VLDS. I am all but out of them. I shoot a Broughton 5C 8twist. The Bergers are not real consistant, +/-.003. Looking at 105 Lapuas. Match Kings and A-Maxs are not out of the question. Any suggestions. Looking for a consitant bullet as a back up load. I am going the BIB or JLK route next season.

6mm bullets

Hornet -

Howdy !

I too am trying out a whole host of 6mm bullets, in my 6mm wildcat
case ( " Deep 6 " ).

Since I shoot paper and reactive targets out to 500, I have gone to use of
bullets in the 88 -107gr range.

For my last shoot in Graham TX, I went in w/ Berger 95s.
Berger 88 proved too flighty in " wind ".

Do you wt-sort your bullets, or sort by base to ogive length; etc ?

I do, and here's what my experience has been:

Sierra 95s were more weight consistent ( less total wt span per each box ) than were the Bergers ( 88s, 90s, 95s, 105s ).

THE most consistent weight bullet proved to be the banal Sierra 85 HPBTs.
Over three boxes of these 85s weighed, I only saw a total wt span of .3gr
variance ! In comparison, the Bergers showed me .7gr total span per box
( 88s and 95s ), and 95 and 107 Sierras showed .5gr total wt span per box.

The Sierra 85s also proved to be the best grouping bullet ( 100yd ) of all the 6mm bullets I tried ( including many customs ). So, I'm persuaded that there is something to this wt sorting business.

I'm preppin' for another shoot @ GRAHAM, and am considering going back there w/ the rest of the box of Berger 95s. I have the remaining Begrer 95s already wt-sorted. Once I shoot these, I'm going to try out the 105 "A"-Max.
Given the wind here, I doubt I' lleven shoot the ( lighter ) Berger 90s.

My point:
If you don't already sort your bullets, you might want to reconsider.
Especially if you are not shooting a gazillion shots per each type of match YOU shoot.

Bullet wt consistency might vary well become one of you primary bullet selection criteria. It certainly has for me !

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Hornetfan,

The most consistent for bearing surface bullets that I have ever measured are a lot of the 107 6mm Sierra Match Kings I got a couple of years ago.. I've shot them out of the box at Piedmont, NC from an 8 twist Kreiger and they have done a fine job for me in a very tough crowd. Not many folks think of Sierra first for BR quality but you should give them a try and see if they work for you.

Try the 95 BIB's

I have two 6BR 9 twist Light Guns, Shooting out to 600 yards one prefers the 95 Berger VLD's and the other seems to like the 95 Bibs

+1 on the BIB 95 FB. Here's a group from my 6BR pronghorn rifle @ 300yd, shot from a bipod in preparation for this week's trip to Wyoming. I have a 9tw barrel so I can shoot the Berger 95 VLDs, but I can't get the VLDs to shoot quite as well as the BIBs, at least out to 300yd. My next 6BR barrel will be a 10tw dedicated to R.G.'s fine projectiles. :)

With your 8tw you might want to give R.G.'s 108gr a try.
