Brux Barrels

Erik Cortina put up a Youtube that is an interview with one of the owners of Brux barrels. Erik stated a number of the long range winners were using Brux barrels. I didn't watch the entire video because of other events interfering but will go back to it when I get the chance. What I did glean was the lad speaking favors the old fashioned 4 groove style and a lot of the winning barrels last year were 4 groove.

Gents,

William Hambly-Clark, in his book "Centerfire Rifle Accuracy" talks of using 4 groove barrels exclusively as they are far easier to dial-in when setting up to chamber, if one is inclined to indicate off the bore directly. Made sense to me, so that's what I started using for my customers guns. Could explain the success of 4 groovers if others feel the same.

I do still have a soft spot for Lilja 3 grooves, though...

A number of folks are having good success with Brux barrels in IBS score competition as well as a number of other makers. I think most all the makers are making good barrels and every now and then they make great ones. Be thankful when you get one of the great ones!

I've never used a Brux but I've had one each great barrel from Hart, Pacnor, Krieger, Shilen and Rock Creek. I've never used any of the other makers I just mentioned with my CF rifles. I tried another brand in 16 twist but it wasn't competitive. I complained and the maker said "I tried one once on a Hunter Gun and it wouldn't shoot either" but he wouldn't take back the one he sold me. I never bough another of his barrels .

Dialed in is dialed in. Obviously 4 groove is quicker. I've done thousands of 5 groove and it doesn't take me any longer to dial them in than a 4 groove. 3 groove Lilja's can/will drive a man to drink but you get them dialed in and go to work.

IME, Brux barrels are about as good as they get. They definitely make a very good barrel. We are blessed to have several choices of TOP FLIGHT barrels available to us.

My best Barrel ever was a 3 groove, unfortunately it was also my shortest lived barrel because I had to cram a ridiculous amount of powder in the 6PPC... so much that I can't even say in order to get it to shoot... the hotter I fed it the better it shot... That lasted about 800 rounds and done. What a waste. I love 5 groove Bartlein's.
