Best Dies

I like Wilson dies a LOT. They're economical and top-notch. You can spend a lot more on Redding and Forster, etc. and have good dies, but for the price, Wilson gets my vote.

Wilson gets one half of my vote for an outstanding Micrometer Seater Die. The other half goes to Billy Stevens for the Full Length Sizing Die with Bushing that he made for my 6PPC. [Wilson doesn't make a F/L die.]

Certainly. Benchrest rifles have custom chambers. Dies made to fit that chamber are best. Many benchrest gunsmiths, when ordering a reamer, also order what is called a resize reamer, for making full-length resizing dies.

There are also some custom die manufacturers who will make up a die based on your fired case. If it is a 6ppc or BR, or even a .30 BR, Harrell's is the least expensive. They aren't exactly custom dies, rather, they have a number of slightly differently sized die bodies already made up, & pick one that is a good fit for your fired case.

Jim Carstensen makes custom dies for any chambering. He will need your chamber reamer though, so if a you had a gunsmith use his reamer (as opposed to your reamer) to cut your chamber this won't work.

I'll second that

I'll second Jim Carstensen. Send him 3 fired cases and he'll send you back a great die. I have two of them and would not be without them.

I believe Neil Jones will do the same.

IMHO, buying a Benchrest sizing die without establishng whether or not it is dimensionally suitable for your chamber is a crapshoot. Depending on the iteration of your chamber it may or may not size as needed. Spend a few bucks for your own reamer and a resizing reamer and have your smith cut a chamber that will be sized properly.
