Lee, I have two guns with Beggs stocks, and I can tell you moving the forend don't change tune. in fact I just moved the forend back 2" and I didnt have to change the load, tuner setting or adjust the scope at all. And yes they are just as accurate , if not more than a conventional stock. The only negative thing I can think of is that it takes 5 minutes longer to change a barrel. Ken
Thank you Ken. I'm glad you are happy with your two Beggs stocks. They work great; don't they?
When I set out to design my own benchrest stock, I had the following requirements in mind. The stock must be;
1. Rugged and lightweight.
2. Easy and simple to install on the barreled action.
3. Shoot and handle as well as and preferably better than conventional stocks.
4. Inexpensive.
5. No bedding, painting or gluing.
6. The stock must have all essentials positioned in the right place but nothing unnecessary to get in the way; i.e.,
a. Comfortable, properly positioned buttplate.
b. Three-inch forend positioned for perfect balance.
c. Hard anodized finish for durability and bag-riding smoothness.
I'm proud and happy to say that all requirements have been achieved; I could not be happier with the product and I now use nothing else. The first run of Ultralites were more expensive than I had hoped for, mainly due to the fact that only a few were built. By quadrupling the quantity of the second batch, price has been significantly reduced.
Speedy Gonzalez' motto has always been, "If you can't shoot well, at least look good." and Speedy has built some beautiful rifles that shoot very well but they take lots of time and money. In my opinion, a benchrest shooter does not need a stock that is a work of art any more than a stock car driver needs a hand rubbed, pinstriped, museum quality car. When it comes to competition, where the 'rubber meets the road' the only thing that counts is function, reliability and performance! Ask Jackie Schmidt.
If you are a competition minded benchrest shooter, expensive, beautiful works of art in a stock can actually be detrimental to your match results. You will spend too much time worrying about putting a scratch on that beautiful paint job instead of concentrating on the essentials.
