"Begg's type" stocks

Eliminating the "Barrel Block" wording from the rule book will take 25 or more IBS members signatures and appropriate wording on a proposed agenda item. That agenda item must then be properly submitted.to get started. There is no other way it can happen under current rules . It is as simple as that.

Once rules are passed, simply corredting the language of them to make them understandable and clear is, well I just stated my beliefs.
I wonder, do you feel the same about our Constitution?

Pete can answer for himself, but I certrainly do. We have the court system that is used when something in the Bill of Rights (and all of the Constitution) needs clarifying/interpreting. We certainly don't vote on every wrinkle that comes up. I guess that's what the IBS board does for us.

BTW, an item on the news last week was that in high school and college testing, only 60 percent of the responders were sure just which country we Americans declared our independence from. Ain't democracy grand!

kinda off topic but why the barrel tuner? It looks to me like the front block would work as a tuner?? Lee

Lee, I have two guns with Beggs stocks, and I can tell you moving the forend don't change tune. in fact I just moved the forend back 2" and I didnt have to change the load, tuner setting or adjust the scope at all. And yes they are just as accurate , if not more than a conventional stock. The only negative thing I can think of is that it takes 5 minutes longer to change a barrel. Ken

Thank you Ken. I'm glad you are happy with your two Beggs stocks. They work great; don't they?

When I set out to design my own benchrest stock, I had the following requirements in mind. The stock must be;

1. Rugged and lightweight.

2. Easy and simple to install on the barreled action.

3. Shoot and handle as well as and preferably better than conventional stocks.

4. Inexpensive.

5. No bedding, painting or gluing.

6. The stock must have all essentials positioned in the right place but nothing unnecessary to get in the way; i.e.,

a. Comfortable, properly positioned buttplate.

b. Three-inch forend positioned for perfect balance.

c. Hard anodized finish for durability and bag-riding smoothness.

I'm proud and happy to say that all requirements have been achieved; I could not be happier with the product and I now use nothing else. The first run of Ultralites were more expensive than I had hoped for, mainly due to the fact that only a few were built. By quadrupling the quantity of the second batch, price has been significantly reduced.

Speedy Gonzalez' motto has always been, "If you can't shoot well, at least look good." and Speedy has built some beautiful rifles that shoot very well but they take lots of time and money. In my opinion, a benchrest shooter does not need a stock that is a work of art any more than a stock car driver needs a hand rubbed, pinstriped, museum quality car. When it comes to competition, where the 'rubber meets the road' the only thing that counts is function, reliability and performance! Ask Jackie Schmidt.

If you are a competition minded benchrest shooter, expensive, beautiful works of art in a stock can actually be detrimental to your match results. You will spend too much time worrying about putting a scratch on that beautiful paint job instead of concentrating on the essentials.

Charles, please email me: my old PC crashed an I lost all of the contacts - fortunately, everything else was, properly, backed up. RG

Dear Mr. Beggs:

I have noticed your ultra-light rifle in the Benchrest.com files and I was wondering if you had a few moments to enlighten me. I have looked at the rifle from a coupled of different angles and was wondering if you had different pictures from the one I see on your last post. I hope you could possible tell me the price and how long it would take to get one to me. I dearly love the stock and was hoping to get some different pictures to take a look at.

Thanks,

Kenny Housh
