they make currency at the US Mint. They also make a heck of a lot of money off auction sales. You name it they sell it. Forfeited property, surplus, land, etc,etc,
They take billions in cash from drug traffickers and other criminal enterprise operations. Uncle sugar makes the most from taxes.

if banks were to close, and credit/debit not working/accepted, there is not enough actual cash in circulation to keep the country running for more than a few days.

We received our $2400.00 today in the mail...………………………………...we can surely use it since we are retired and make less than $50,000.00 per year. Thankfully, we have no taxes to pay! We always get a full refund for anything we pay in.
A great life we are living since we have no debt whatsoever!

For those receiving stimulus money, do some real good with it.
Spend it at a local 'Mom and Pop' retailer or another individual owned business. Drive through a local coffee shop, even when you can make a cup at home. Be obscenely generous with the tip. Buy a few barrels, a new action, some bullets, support your local gun shop, etc, etc.

I'm driving 40mi today to buy a hunk of AL I could have mailed to my door.... I will stop and eat at the first restaurant I see open.....
I walked into my local concrete supply store yesterday JUST BECAUSE I SAW THE GATE OPEN WHEN I DROVE BY!!! (they haven't been open for a couple mo, I've moved my business elsewhere...) I went into the warehouse and a nervous employee yelled "SIR! You can't be in here sir!" I told him to shut up and load my van with a bunch of stuff I didn't need and to PLEASE, if he can get his boss to answer the door I want to talk to her.....
I've been calling local suppliers, shopping every day just to force this issue around our area and every day we get more timid heads poking out from around the window blinds...
I started a job yesterday at a private Christian Academy and my guys are just warm and fuzzy all day...... my foreman, who hasn't hugged his yr-old granddaughter for 2mo because his wife and daughter won't let him is in tears watching crowds of beautiful children skipping and playing in the playground 50ft away.
It's a sad sad day when the sounds of children's laughter makes grown men cry

If you're really curious to know..... one of my former employees works 3-stories underground at the Federal Reserve in Seattle..... I could find out
Not much though, pennies, I'll guess the cloth-bound paper is the biggest expense.
I just wish more people were curious enough to find out what money really IS...... not how much it costs to print the scrip!

The money that you see in those huge stacks of cash ,seized from Drug cartels/Kingpins, may consist of currency dating many years back . In fact,I have some souvenirs(Bills),taken from one of those stacks, dating back to 1924.
So, considering when computerized records were introduced, its difficult if not impossible, to guess an accurate cost of production of the paper currency you see in one of those huge stacks of cash. First, you’d have to know how much cash was in the stack. The largest stack that I personally witnessed was 10 million dollars.

BTW, Glenn may have a different opinion but IMO "taking those stacks of bills out of circulation" by shredding them, burning or otherwise destroying them costs us nothing more than the payment to the guys who do the disposal work.

No...its put in a slush fund account and distributed to Law Enforcement agencies,to supplement operating budgets. Some of the money is used by the seizing agency to purchase resources, fund operations. Most is distributed to local and State agencies.
The State and locals jump at the opportunity to join a Task force operation for this very reason. At the conclusion of the operation, Seized property and cash is distributed to participating agencies. Some seized property is sent out to auction.
This is the way I remember it.
