Anybody work with the Marlin MR-7 rifle?

Hi:

I am contemplating building a custom rifle using this action.

Has anybody ever worked with this action and if so, what were your results?

I think that this action has some nice features that may make a nice custom rifle.

TIA,

Zeke

Do you mean the Marlin X7 rifle? That rifle was designated as XS7 (short action), or XL7 (long action). Now, I believe that they have simplified those designations to just the X7 rifle. I believe that they also offer a heavy-barrelled model, with a longer barrel.

Looking for a great value for a first rifle for one of my nephews, I recommended to him an XS7, .308 Win., which he got. He likes it, and I am convinced that that rifle is the best product for him.

Oops, sorry about that. Perhaps you did mean MR-7, the rifle Marlin discontinued some years ago. I have no experience with the MR-7, but I read that it was a good, competitive rifle (competitive in the realm of good hunting rifles, anyway). Heck, if the rifle was relatively high quality (and I believe it was pretty good, but apparently not "fancy"), and if you like its features, go for it. I hope that your results make you happy.

Zeke -

Howdy !

For hyper-accuracy work, one challenge would be the trigger If trigger pull is on-the-order of 4lb, shooting tight/tightest groups possible w/ the gun might be problematic. I'm not sure there is an after-market trigger to help that, with the gun in question.

With a Rem action, triggers of 2oz pull are offered. In Savage and Ruger accuracy rifles, they have included an adjust-it-yourself feature, with pull weight options
substantially lower than a notional 4lb " factory " trigger.

Best of luck in your endeavors !

Hi .357 Mag.

The trigger on the Mr-7 looks like a copy of the Winchester M 70. That trigger is very easy to adjust to lighter pull. Perhaps an aftermarket trigger for the M 70 would be a replacement.

The MR-7 has the front of the bolt like a Rem 700 and the rest of the action is like the M 70 Win. Pretty cool I think!

Thanks to all for the replies,

Leomat
