any news on Bullet jackets

The last I heard was there are No distribtors just of jackets by Sierra, You have to be a Distribitor in full.
Thats right from Sierra.

Last I heard Bart has 400,000 30cal jackets on order from Sierra that are .944" long, I ordered a few thousand from him = Bart is the Sierra dealer.

Bullet jackets

Sierras web site says they have no 224 or 243 jackets for sale; they do have some 30 cals. I donn't understand why Berger supplies are dried up, because they own J4 jackets. You would think they would supply their own needs first.

In 30BR I shoot only custom bullets. Randy Robinet says he is taking no orders for those. I spoke to another custom bullet maker and he says he cannot get J4 jackets and is taking no orders. From talking to other shooters, that seems to be the situation everywhere.

So the question is: Why are jackets impossible to get? If this continues, some small custom bullet makers are going down the tubes. Perhaps this is the time for new jacket makers to crank it up.

We often hear

From the J4 rep, but curiously haven't on the issue of the shortage to the custom bullet maker trade. Not sure why? Perhaps he can chime in with something truthful? Greg

Not wanting to start a rumor here. But someone said, it is because they are trying to get their hunting bullets into their line up and it takes up all of the extras to do so. But it was also said that they were trying to keep the jacket market prices high enough to discourage the bullet builders from being in competition with them. Like I said this is just rumor's.

I believe someone will offer some insight on this from Berger, to let us know if it is true or not..

Disinformation at any rate I would suspect. The cottage industry bullet makers really put a dent in commercial sales of target bullets!

Well

"The cottage industry bullet makers really put a dent in commercial sales of target bullets! "

I believe they do in the short range benchrest game using 65-68 gr 6mm bullets in group and 112-125 grain .30 cal bullets in score. Not many shoot mass produced bullets. Not sure what the sales of these bullets are in total but between BR shooters and those who play the accuracy games at club shoots I'll bet its substantial.

My guess is that with Berger/J4 its their ramping up production and expanding their line of bullets that's keeping them busy producing for themselves. If its any other reason, shame!
