Following a road accident a few years ago I had to give up a lot of my shooting practice and now being sat in a wheelchair with a pretty useless left arm I can only really 'table shoot'. As I now know, this is called Benchrest, which sounds much more fun!

I've kind of fallen into it to be honest, I got a couple of sand bags a while ago and more recently picked up a more substantial metal rest with a couple of adjustments. I've also completely coincidentally put my garden targets up at 15 and 25 meters. The 15 is for pellet and scope testing/sighting and the 25 is for the practice.

The loss of different disciplines hasn't frustrated me at all, I love shooting like this. I have friends berating me at every opportunity because I'm not standing, holding a rifle at arms length with one hand! But they haven't given this a proper try, they haven't 'got it', understood it.

I don't think I'm particularly good at the moment, I haven't found the right combination kit to get completely comfortable, I also have several rifles and regularly swap between them which I must stop doing, but, as I'm shooting within the rules of bench rest competitions I might as well do things right.

I only fire 12tf lbs at the moment, I would like to progress to FAC, and possibly rimfire, but that will take some time.

So, being new to this I thought I'd ask a couple of questions. I'm sure they will have been asked before, but I'd love to have all the answers in one place...

Are there any clubs in the Lincolnshire area I can join/meet/talk to?
Is there anything I should bear in mind as a wheelchair user?
Could someone please recommend a good supplier for bench rest equipment?

Thanks folks.

I don't know much about "air rifles" but I do know a little bit about rimfire rifles and shooting the same in terms of "sanctioned Benchrest". We'll get to that later but the first thing you need to do is locate the matches that you can travel to...then decide which game you're going to play. By "play" I mean to have the intent to win.

Frankly, I don't know which or how close to Lincolnshire any matches might be but somebody does and maybe they will respond. Do not buy any serious equipment until you have attended a sanctioned match and looked around.

Realized I didn't answer you questions...I did but it may not seem so.

You'll need to look around at a bench or two to make sure you can get your wheelchair up to the bench. There was a fellow that shot centerfire Benchrest and he couldn't shoot from just any bench everywhere he went. Just sayin'....

Decide on which discipline you're gonna shoot and then we can talk about the various vendors that supply that discipline.

Do a Goggle search on "disabled shooting equipment" and view only images. Click on an image to see what website it is from. Click on the website if it interests you. The search turns up a large variety of rests and equipment as well as sites for organizations for handicapped shooters. Should be some tips and tricks on there. Also you'll find sites for Olympic and other high level shooting from a wheelchair for both rifle and pistol. Best of luck!

abled shooter

Ive been crippled for over 20 years. Shoot a lot. Never shot a match but have a benchrest 6 ppc. Got a friend who poured a concrete bench for me. Don't forget to set the brakes. Doug

advice needed

for what it's worth I knew a benchrest shooter Lou Church that had only One arm
He was a noted shooter in his day and a really great guy too. Lou was hard to beat of the bench on any given day.
Keep up the good work and I'm sure you will do well in Benchrest

advice please

you may want to try a 222 223 or 222 mag they have very light recoil and can be super accurate too.
I'm working on one of my oldies and fixing up my 222, new stock ,new barrel .
