A tough question about 308's

I am lucky enough to have an excess of 308 rifles. An older Remington 40xbr, a 5 year old sendero, a new sendero, a bushmaster ar10, a armalite ar10 and a new SR25 ar10. All are long barreled rifles.
I am presently loading 42 grains of Varget behind sierra 168's. The armalite
ar10 shoots absolutly amazing while the orthers are 1/2 inch rifles but not even close to the preformance of the armalite.
Am I just wishing when I hope to find one load that shoots extremely well in all the rifles? Maybe 4895 or reloader 15? Am I just wishing or is it possible?

308 Dilemma.

You poor man what a dreadful situation, wish I could be half that lucky. Seems to Me that your rifles are a bit under loaded but I cant argue with Your results. Try altering Your seating depth if You want the same load to shoot in different rifles,:D as most rifles are individuals in this reguard.

I know guys often calls their groups smaller than whats real but thiese guns really do shoot that well.

Your load is the average used in BR. 42-44 grains of varget with 168 is what my son shoots in his savage.

My FN 308 prefers 155 SMK with 42 gr of varget.

My .308 Pet Load

My XR 100 loves 43.7 of Varget, Fed 210M, 168 SMK COAL 2.825. It's a good replacement for the $34 a box Rem factory match ammo that it loves even more.

I have also used 43 grs of VV N-150 with 167 Scenars that shot well, but not like the Varget and the 168 SMKs. I am going to try some H4895 since I have some that I am using for my 6BR.

How does that saying go? ... "are you complaining, or bragging":)

How close is that to your lands?

I have the same rifle, loves the 168 right on the lands, but shoots ok, with a jump.

try a different bullet.....

using 748 with a 125g-135g from 49-52g of 748 will shoot one hole groups with the Sendero and 40x with speeds in the 3100-3200 fps and will out perform the 168's at 200 yards due to the extreme speeds.

I shot 12 deer with this load, two bucks over 200 lbs and at 200 yards it flattened 220 lb buck right where he stood.

If you are just a 200 yd target shooter, then you will be amazed at the accuracy.

If you are wanting to shoot the same load in all rifles, you are in a compromised situation that is not condusive to the best accuracy potential in each gun, it's just that the load you choose shot better in the AR-10.

Good luck!

Boy do l agree with that....When l had my last PSS in 308
l would get many five shot groups with one shot out just
enough to make it a 1/2 or 5/8" group.that was with
Varget.still great groups, but went to H4895 and got the
groups down to 3/4inch at 200yds. lf you are shooting
the Rem.hammer forged barrel try cutting 1 an1/2 to
two inchs off the barrel and recrowning,it works.Luck..
