6PPC/N-133 loads

I'm working up a load with N-133 in a 6PPC using 67 gr bullet.
What have some of you folks wound up with for a powder charge that shoot this combo?
I'm just trying to get a feel for the range of weights.

28.5 to 29.5 gr 133 with a 65 to 68gr bullet. Some shoot hotter, others shoot at 28grs into the lands,
hope this helps.

Agree with Gerry

Hi Fishbone.

Common N133 loads in Benchrest rifles are about 29.2 - 29.8gn with a 65-68gn pill.
At the last Supershoot I saw people trying to keep up with the speed of light by loading 30.4gn and I know some others who lobbed the bullet to the target by shooting 27.8gn or there abouts. Find something that works and stick with it.
Best of luck.

Hello All,

My brass can't accomodate that much N133 powder, it tops out at about 27gr. How do you get 28-29gr of n133 into the case and still seat the bullet?

Steve

Steve it will fit. I use a short drop tube with a spring that I found that would fit up inside the tube. The key is if using a powder thrower to lower the handle SLOWLY and let the poder trickle into the case. If you were running 30 grains of 133 it would be a LONG way up the neck.

If you are dumping the charges QUICKLY it will fill the case up quicker.

SLOW and STEADY is the key.

Calvin,
One more thing that should be mentioned about those springs (I have one.) is that if he gets one, he should always flick it a couple of times with the nail side of his index finger to knock loose any powder that may have hung up on the spring. The fellow that I copied when I did always did, and once when I forgot to, I ended up with the deepest crater that I have ever seen...from my DGA. I bet the ES for that group was a whopper.

Good warning, Al.
The warning has me thinking, being new to custom guns and this cartridge.
I would expect, as a charge is increased to the 55K level using a gun that max's out at that pressure, the case should show signs of high pressure. That would be normal.
With a custom gun and working up into heavier loads, would I, or should I, expect the bolt to open without force, but showing high pressure on the brass as a normal condition?
I would think the brass would not care what type gun was involved and start showing high pressure at the same point. It would follow that maybe 30.5 gr+ loads would always show high pressure.
Just some mental masturbation.
