6mm cleaning rod for 30BR

I have a 30 cal Dewey rod for my 30br but it feels extremely tight in my rifle. Even a small patch gets stuck right out the guide rod mouth. I am afraid to force it in and scrape the bore.
I end up using my 22cal cleanig rod with a larger patch to clean the rifle. I am thinking of getting a 6mm rod for a better fit. I will still use a larger patch but it would be a bit better fit.

What cal cleaning rod is everyone using in their 30BR? Is using a 6mm rod ok or is their another size that works better. I don't want to use the 30cal rod.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed - It's not the size of the rod that is causing you problems. It's the jag and/or patch size. You need an appropriate 30 caliber jag and a patch that fits.

I am using a 30cal jag and 1 1/4" patch. It seems that using a smaller cal rod and jag with a larger patch would provide more cushion between the jag and the bore. I am probably wrong, that's why I want to hear from others as to what size rod, jag ang patch they are using for their 30br.

OK. I use the following:

30 Cal = .240" jag
28 Cal = .225" jag
24 Cal = .175" jag

All three work just right with a 1.75" patch

I use the largest diameter rod that I have with each caliber. It helps to reduce flexing and peening the bore.

Thanks Checchako and Mike, The .243 jag does not fit the 30cal Dewey rod (i tried) the threads are too big. I don't know if another co makes a smaller cal jag to fit the 30 cal Dewey rod.

Don't try to buy the jags based on the "caliber". Go strictly by diameter of the jag. Get a set, such as sold by Midway, and then pick the ones that work in a particular barrel with the patch you are using. Jags can also be chucked in a lathe, if you have one, and turned to the correct size. Or chuck them in a hand drill and fine tune them with a file.
