6 PPC barrel

Hello everybody.

I have a spare barrel in 6 PPC that was installed on a Sako rifle.
I would install it in a Remington, but the thread is different and no longer has space to make chamber / new thread.

You can fill the area with eletric welding and make the new thread on the deposited material?

It is possible to heat treat and get well? My gunsmith think so, but I have concern that will turn a bad work.

Thanks

If the Sako tenon is small enough you could make a threaded bushing, then screw it on the Sako barrel, then thread it to fit the Remington, IF you can figure out what it would take to get the headspace correct and IF the bolt nose of the Remington will match or be machined to match????

Welding up a barrel tenon, you better know what you are doing because you can easily shrink the chamber diameter.

I measured the Sako tenon diameter, its 1" and the Remington is +/- 1.060". But the threads are diferent. If welding isnt a viable option, I will try the bushing way

In your opinion, what will be a best thread size in the bushing to achieve the most strenght? Maybe 20 to 22 TPI? And what diameter in the tenon were we will redo the threads? If the diameter is small, I believe that under pressure, the chamber will expand and if the diameter is large, the small amount of material remainder will weakens the juncture... Anyway, I will try the options who you think is best.

let me know

Thanks

If the Sako is 1" and the Remington is 1-1/16 16tpi, then just a plain threaded bushing like I suggested above will not work. The root diameter of the Remington thread would be 0.990 or so depending in the thread sharpness (90%, 80%, 75% thread.). So ??

Yes Liseo, when you turn down small enough for bushing your tenon will swell upon firing, you will get sticky extraction if you fire hot loads. BTW, if you DO decide to do all this work consider making an indexing system ALA Gene Beggs :) Might as well get some experimental data from all your work eh!

Just an idea.....

When you think thing's are foolproof, God just make's a better fool.

I've seen K31's, Mausers, Carcanos and Lee Enfields using barrel stubs to make bushings. Not saying this is ideal for best accuracy, but is usually done to save money or not machining intricate breech faces [aka K31].
Don't know the best diameters, but let's say 3/4".
Turn the tenon and rethread the Sako barrel and bore out the Rem barrel stub and internal thread making the matching thread bushing.
It's two extra threads inside each other and lots more extra work.

I believe I will try this one. Later I will post the results (if I survive....)

Thanks
