6.5 Br

Here is my story and what I do with the 6.5BR improved. While around the camp fire (Literally). We were talking about are local club that shoots only 300 yard BR. We thought that the 6PPC was not quit up to it, so we came up with the 6.5BR. It shot very well for us. So shot it for 3 to 4 yr. Then the 30BR came up and started to shoot it.

I had a 6.5x284 with about 1400 rounds throw it and decided to re-chamber to the 6.5BR and will use this for 600 F-Class. Well the barrel is only 22 inches long so I needed a lighter bullet, so will try using 12x gr bullets.

The 139+gr is the bullet for 1K BR.

The 100 or less would be good for P-Dog's.

So Eric, I hope other will tell you what they are using there lighter 6.5 for. Just to let you know I use your 180's for my 2 LG & HG 1k BR guns. And thank you!!

6.5mm light bullets

Some of the feedback I am getting (beyond this forum) is that the 6.5mm using light bullets is in an unstable state.

What I mean by that is no one is convinced where this caliber needs to go (weight and shape). This is not bad but I need help understanding what is going on so far.

I have made bullets before that others said would be the bees knees only to learn that the ten guys that shoot them are the only ten guys in the country that shoot them.

I think Berger has demonstrated a willingness to make bullets in new calibers and weights but it does none of us any good to make bullets that don't get shot.

More data and feedback is much appreciated. I have requested this same thing on 6.5mm Grendel.com. Hopefully we can get some solid information on which to build as this seems like a very interesting area to explore.

Please submit any feedback no matter how insignificant you feel it may be.

Regards,
Eric

I would like to know what people think about the 6.5 Br. I am looking for a reduced capacity in 6.5 cal that has a good accuracy potential. I already have a 6.5x47 and a 6.5x284. I plan on shooting bullets in the 100-300 grain range. Any information or load data will be appreciated. I found a reamer with a .288 neck that I plan to use. This should just clean up the neck. Only 6.5 I still shoot is the 6.5X300WWH 7 1/2 twist Douglas air gauged Supreme 1 3/8 dia. 31" Barrel.

This is all done up in a Stainless Block bedded Mauser Single Shot Benchrest action and topped off with a 2" Unertal 12 Power Programmer scope. ( I sold my 20 power programmer because of the mirage) dumb me. It was a super hot summer) but I like my 12 anyway.
The stock is a Fajen thumbhole airglide benchrest style in 5/16 laminate.

My new loads were sent to Sierra for a supplement page in the manual.

Remington 300 Wby Mag case
73 Gr. Reloader 25 Powder
Sierra 142 Gr.Matchking 6.5 bullet
Federal 215 Magnum Primer

Excellent accuracy and very flat shooting 200 yard group 3/8th inch

Velocity 3445 fps.

The other load I came up with was using Retumbo powder 76 gr. at 3430 fps. The only problem I encountered was it was not sealing off in the chamber well enough to prevent blackening of the neck.
I went hotter on the charge but started losing accuracy at 200 yards.
It seems that the 6.5x300WWH likes the velocity around 3450.

The old loads for this used to be 93gr X283 83 gr.H 870 80gr H 570 using the 140gr.Sierra Matchking.
Velocities for all three of these loads were between 3075 and 3140
The mid range trajectory was 15 ft. at 1000 yards.

This new load with the 142 matchking and new (modern powder) should revitalize this rifle.
The wind bucking capabilities is awesome on this caliber. It is still hard to find a rifle that shoots as flat as this does.
With the scopes mounted on normal bases it only takes 61 minutes or 242 clicks of elevation to be on at one mile and these stats were with the old loads!

I will say that the 6.5X284 would be much easier for a novice to start out with as cases are readily available.

RCBS makes the dies for the 6.5 X 300WWH It takes a 7mm rem.mag neck die and a 6.5 rem.mag neck die to make your 300 Weatherby brass into the 6.5 wildcat. Your RCBS set should have the 6.5 300 full length
die and seating die.
