322 powder

i see that you no longer use this and now use n133.i was told that 322 has a diferent color to it .what has changed with the 322 to cause you as bench rest shooters to go to n133 in stead of the 322.thanks for your time.

H-322(EXTREME), manufactured by ADI (Australian Defense Industries), delivers excellent performance in BR capacity cartridges:
the prejudice tilts toward the VihtaVuori Oy 'N' series powders. This trend took root in the late '80's/early '90's, before Hodgdon began purchasing and re-labeling the ADI products. Prior to that, the Hodgdon offerings were largely military surplus powders.

H-322(EXTREME) is ADI 2219 and IS NOT the same as the older military surplus version of H-322: in general, I have found the ADI version superior in every application, from short/small .224's through 30x47HBR . . . that said, though it shoots extremely well in the 30BR, velocity is
about 100 FPS slower than H-4198 (AR-2207). The H-322 (EXTREME) is notably denser that the H-4198: the setting which drops 34.8 Gr. from my Jones powder measure, produces a charge weight of 37.2 Gr. of the former - yes, the 37.2 Gr. charge produces match winning precision, albeit at lower velocity. "DARE TO BE DIFFERENT". ;) RG

I have been shooting 1990's vintage H-322 (not extreme) in my BR rifles, and it shoots quite well. In HV I finished 4th @ 100 yds, 3rd @ 200 yds and 3rd in the grand agg. last weekend in Tacoma. Load was 28 gr. with a 65gr bullet in a 6ppc.
R.G. is right about the density, 28 gr. of 133 fills the case fuller than 28 gr. of 322.

Last weekend, at our initial 2026 NBRSA score tournament, I went DARTH VADER and shot a 6PPC, on a Time Precision ALV, which, in 1997, had been trued, fit & chambered & by Jim Borden, using my 'Skip Otto' chamber-reamer. It's now been shot in three 100/200 Yd. tournaments - 2 VfS and one group. At the latter, it was used to win the 100 & Grand Aggs (0.21xx @100): that event was via 29.9 Gr. of H-322(EXTREME)/65 Gr. FB/CCI BR4.
Last week, due to poor memory and having left the notebook home, I opted to shoot a Jones setting of 50 (four clicks to the number), which shot extremely well, but got a little "clicky" toward the end of the 200 Yd. stage . . . upon returning home, setting up and checking, that proved to have been 31.2 Gr.! Just a 'mite' hot. The GARMIN Xero recorded the Ave. velocity at 3384 FPS with an extreme spread of 21FPS. With my remaining
'old school' H-322 (Surplus stuff), as for Steve, 28.0 Gr. is the top end: it also shoots quite well. All of my H-322 Extreme was purchased prior to Y2K, and the Surplus version around <1993, from Lock-Stock&Barrel. RG

So, what say you is the best H322 Extreme load in your 6PPC -- 29.9 or 31.2?

I would work up from well below that charge weight: the variation from LOT to Lot may be as much as 10%!! In retrospect, the 31.2 Gr. charge was getting hard on the LAPUA brass.
For a group event next weekend, I'll go back to the lower charge, as it performed extremely well when I provided the rifle to a new shooter: she had never fired a center-fire rifle and never a scope - two of her 5 100 Yd. matches were 5-X and her total X-count 18. Unfortunately, she did drop one point. Still, an excellent bout for a rank beginner. :D RG

i am told that there is a color differance between the newer 322 and the older stuff
This is correct. ADI does not coat their rifle powders with graphite, as were all of the 'old' surplus powders, and most contemporary offerings. The ADI powders are of a yellow-green hue - I refer to the shade as, 'treated lumber' . . . but it's not [quite] that green.;) RG
