30x47 Lapua Dies

Redding has - -

6.5X47 dies. All you will need to do it to have the center hole reamed out to 308 or a bit bigger and you will be good to go. These are threaded dies, which I prefer.

I may have a set to sell shortly. The forming die is a reamed Lee, The neck is a Redding bushing and the seater is a Forester Ultra. With the Redding and the Forester, the case floats on a layer of air.

Every machinist I've talked to says "the dies are to hard and I can't do it".

From what I have read they do it with either a carbide drill, reamer or boring bar. It IS done. I have had dies opened up.

I use a Wilson Die for my 30x47, top quality, haydons site has them in stock

Russ Hayden is on my list "as one of the good guys" but, I don't have an Arbor press to use with the Wilson stuff.
Thanks anyway,
Gary.

In my area I know of no one that will attempt it. I'll keep checkinf around to see if I can find anyone.
That was my first thought, opening up the center ot accept the expanded brass, so I called the gunsmith that I go to and he tells me it's to hard.

Thanks for feedback Pete,
Gary.

I have opened a few Redding 6,5x47 Type-S dies to .30x47 using a solid carbide mill-bit (not sure about the correct term for the tool-bit you use in a milling machine).

I just put the die in a 4-jaw chuck in the lathe and indicate it and use the mill-bit to turn out the steel in the shoulder/neck area. Use low rpms and a good cutting oil and the work is done in notime! I use a 6 mm mill-bit.

Most FL dies are case hardened and easy to turn if you break the glass-like surface with a carbide tool. I have modified RCBS and Forster dies to use neck-bushings without any major problems.

I would give both Harrell's and JLC Precision a call. I read recently that Harrell's may be making dies for 30X47L, and I'm sure that Jim Carstensen can make you what you want.

OK, do you have contact numbers /email address for these guys. I am not familiar with either of them.

Thanks,
Gary.

You were correct Jim ! Talked to Lynwood and he has them in stock, but needs one piece of brass that has been fired three times. Sounds like a "good ole boy".

Thank all of you for helping me out,
Gary.
