Has anyone (in thier right mind or not) tried a .30X47 at anyhting over 300yards? I have a 12 twist barrel laying around and was thinking of trying it with 155's at 600 yards.

Suggestions??

It's very funny you mention that today... Just yesterday I answered an e-mail from a fellow shooter from Brazil. In that psot I explained to him about the chamber he is using and being able to match a bullet to the chamber and that since he has a longer freebore, a 1-13 or 1-12 twist barrel may work well with 155 Palma's or 168's. He is using a Benchrest gunsmith for his chambering, and and his asperations are to shoot sillouette, where the plates have to not only be hit, but knocked down. The heavier bullet is the key. I suggested instead of his .30 BR, possibly the .30-47 or a .308 would be a better set up. My thoughts would be to go with what ever he can have chambered best and be able to feed best. A lot of his work is done up here and parts have to shipped through an importer etc. Up here I would use the .30-47, we have one and it works well, however our reamer is set up for the short Robinett Bullets. A throating reamer could change that problem.

I have a 30x47 Groundhog Match rifle Bat action,Tooley Stock and 1.250" 17.5 twist Rock Creek Barrel . It shoots tiny groups at 300 and 400 but so far it shoots about 5 inches at 500yds. I like to think it needs tuning by seating or small powder change but so far I do not have access to a 500yd range to tune it but I have high hopes. I feed it 118/10 Bibs

Kind words appreciated guys!

I'll add a couple of lines!:D
Assuming that you're looking for more BC, in addition to the ten ogive 134/136Gr. BIB, I also offer 155 Gr., 165 Gr. and 187 Gr. FB thirties, all of which will perform well via your 1:12" twist barrel - "throating" for the 165 & 187 is the same . . . the 134-155 are best suited to a somewhat shorter throat. That is, what you'd likely find on the typical 30x47 reamer which is set-up to handle most of the 150 Gr. bullets. G1 BCs are listed on the BIB web-site: www.bibullets.com
Keep 'em ON the X! RG
