Will a .308Win with a 1:12 twist , barell length 24 inches, handle a Sierra 168 gr HPBT?

tom, i agree, it will work fine. i built mine to shoot 150gr hunting bullets but it shoots 165 and 168 grain bullets just as well. good luck to ya, lightan

You will be fine with teh 168s.

My 12 twist 24" .308 tactical rig does fine wih the 168s, likes the 170 Lapua Lockbase even better and LOVES the Sierra 175s. My brother's rifle (identical 12 twist and 24" tube) loves the 170 lockbase and only likes the 175s.

308 rem 700

Anyone have some info on a Rem 700 with a 26 inch tube med barrel.
Whats an good bullet for this? What powder to reload, Just got the gun,
and shot it today to break it in, shot 150 fed's in it that did not do good, But I was breaking it in. What would be a good combo to try. It has a 1-12 twist

308 Win with 26" barrel..

Ron a very good load for the .308 would be Sierra 125 grain ProHunter bullet over 49 grains of WW-748 powder...my favorite load for many years..

Re-15

Try some RE-15 in that. I think you'll be pleased.

I have a 1:12" .308 Pac Nor tube on my Savage and have really just begun to shoot this rifle with various powder bullet combinations. RE-15 stands out as being a very good powder and bears further testing.

Hey Guys,

For what it's worth, Reloder 15 is the powder that Lake City is currently using in the military's M118LR Match ammo, under a Sierra 175 HPBT, Lake City case (obviously) and a No. 43 primer. Instrumental velocity is 2,580 @ 78 ft, which will keep this bullet supersonic out to 1,000, no problem. Varget is another excellent choice here, good velocities and outstanding accuracy. Beyond these, there's still no flys on the old standby, 4895. Give 'em a whirl, and you can't really go wrong with any of these for this particular weight range (168-175 grains).

As for the original question here, that 1x12" twist is pretty much standard fro the 308 Win, and will do a wonderful job with just about anything you'll want to run through it, up to and including a 190 VLD.
