i am thinking of buying a 30-284 Stolle panda i was wondering what sort of velocity and load would work at 500meter bench rest matches. Here in Australia we shoot the 500m fly match would this be a good choice has anyone got any load data and tips.

Pete Wass

shoots a 30-284 short in hunter benchrest. I don't remember how short. With 112 to 118 bullets he is in the 3000 fps mv range.

Many loading manuals treat the 30-284 and the 30-06 as ballistic twins.

My all time favorite accuracy load for the '06 was Elmer Keith's "full case of 4831 and a 168 grn MatchKing............jackie

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the information fellow shooters i am new to bench rest but love it so any help is great appreciated.
cheers and merry xmas to you all

My 30-284

Measures 1.650" long. it is just a tad larger than the minimum HBR case requirement. I shot it last year at 2960 FPS with 118 and 125 1" jacket bullets. It will go faster but that node was sweet so I stayed there.

Spindrift,

That Stolle is slightly improved...it was owned by a shooter in Brisbane...the 30-284 I've got is the standard version and you can use the 30-06 load data to start with...I'm using 155gn Sierra Palma projectiles in mine with 59gns of AR2209 and getting 3150fps...it isn't too far behind the 30-06 Ackley which was my chambering before the 30-284...Robin might have Bob's reloading data with that rifle.
