Howdy !
YOu may first want to read-up on wildcats like the .224 Jaybird, and
.224 Middlestead. Also, you can check up on the 22-6mm (Rem ) or
" .22 Texas Trophy Hunter ".
I'd advise against wildcating .243 Win down to .224" calibre IF the same
parent shoulder angle were utilized. .243 Win already has a bad rep as a
" barrel burner ". By going to a smaller calibre with that 20* shoulder angler; you'd only exacerbate the barrel errosion problem.
The above mentioned wildcats can also be considered " over-bore " capacity;
when and if medium to lighter weight .224" cal bullets are shot.
Heavies like 90s may help w/ th eover-bore situation to a certain degree,
however.... 90s may not make for a good multi-use or universal-use bullet for your shooting circumstance.
I wildcatted .35 Rem down to .224" calibre and w/ a nominal 26* shoulder angle. This case capacity I found emminently sensible, and ideally usefull for my shooting needs ( live varmint and paper shoots ).
