16 Years Ago And Finally Back Home

In 1996 my home was burglerized including all my firearms. One of those taken was the first "True" benchrest rifle I had ever owned. Yesterday in the mail was a letter from the evidence vault at the police station. It reads we have a blue rifle with a scope that is yours. This morning I get there thinking whatever rifle they have is not going to be mine but some spray painted gang banger's P.O.S. Well I was very surprised to see my 222 Remington Benchrest rifle come out of the vault. It still even had the B&L 6x24 on it that I used on my last dog hunt. I asked the clerk where did it come from and she said it was in Texas! How in the heck did this rifle go from Vegas to Texas and finally return 16 years later? Thankfully there is a stand-up FFL dealer in Texas who found out it was stolen.

Wow!! Congrats on your recovery! Usually it doesnt turn out that way. Has it been harmed in any way??

Bore was dirty and a few more chips in the paint. The scope did not have a mark on it! I bore scoped it after cleaning and it looked good. I still have the Joe Maisto loading block with the brass for that rifle. I looked into my log book and found the pet loads that it liked. Next is the range!

Keith, Nice pictures! Hope the choice of stand for the pictures does not reflect the quality of the rifle.

Keith,
A curious question (which you may or may not choose to answer!) - but if you had received an insurance settlement on the theft of the gun if it would have been returned to you instead of going to the insurance company? Regardless, a most interesting story and still a beautiful gun.
