    Carbon Fiber barrels controversy

Some years back, I had opportunity to communicate with Woody Woodall regarding a highly thermal conductive barrel. He had been reviewing some older research data from L-W, and was thinking along similar lines. Some time later, the result was this; and it's rather different from a carbon fiber...

    Judge Scalia is dead.

Now is the time when we see for certain whether the political system is well and truly skewed against the Constitution and BOR. All BO is doing is setting up a situation where the Liberals can hold a Conservative lead in the Senate up to ridicule going into the elections. It's a cheap shot, but...

    F T/R starter rifle.

Over the past year I have been shooting and evaluating a .30-'06 load that another suggested. It's been my experience that FGMM is hard to beat, and this load appears to match up fairly well. Win Brass and/or Hornady. CCI BR-2, 48.1gr of IMR-4064, and the SRA 168SMK loaded to 3.230" OAL. I use...

    Veterans thank you

We Veterans also thank you all back, and today, we Marine Veterans get to do it a day early. Semper Fidelis, November 10, 1775, birth date of the Marine Corps. Greg Langelius, Cpl USMC, 1966-1968

    Firing Pin effect on ignition

I wonder if the springs that needed replacement were on rifles that were stored cocked? Greg

    Build Your Own

My 'custom' gun uses a trued Savage 10FP action from 2001. It has worn three barrels, and the current one is an L-W pre-fit with a .260 Rem SAAMI chamber. To set up the H/S, I basically use a resized casing as a H/S Gauge, hand tighten the barrel against the case shoulder until I feel some...

    Hello Everyone

Great advice so far. The .308 will serve for the indoctrination period, getting your act together for 600/1000yd. A lot of people stop right there, keeping the .308. I have come to see the chambering as marginal for much beyond 600yd. But..., a marginal chambering can get somewhat critical as...

    Long Term Storage?

Before I put away my sidelock muzzleloader, I gave it the customary cleaning with hot water and detergent. This was followed up with a light/uniform coating of everything with Bore Butter. That spring, our zone was finally approved for centerfire rifle hunting of deer, and muzzleloader...

    1.45 barrel in a 1.50 barrel block???

.05" is 50 mils, roughly the equivalent of 10 wraps with electrical tape (5 mil thickness on average). Copper foil tape. I figure some careful wraps should beef up the barrel diameter while also serving as a thermal conductor. Another alternative is Aluminum foil tape. Greg Langelius

Sorting 22lr bulk ammo for accuracy... somthing to think about

I think that if you find improvement, and are willing to expend the extra effort; good for you. If you run into criticism, accept it for the positive aspect; at least they read your work and are willing to comment. If you come up with something else others can use, keep on posting it. IMHO, the...

    Build Your Own

Back in 2001, a few of us from SH developed a few project rifles with the support of several vendors. These rifles were fielded in the 2001 Carlos Hathcock Match at Cherry Ridge, NJ, and the Inaugural Spirit of America Match at Whittington Center, Raton, NM in 2002. One of them won the Carlos in...

    Help with sonic case cleaner

I bought a no-name Chinese U/S cleaner from Amazon about two years ago, and gave it a flurry of use at first, then it sat unused until now. I was using Dawn and Lemi-Shine initially, then unsweetened Lemon Kool-Aide. The cases would quickly tarnish despite thorough rinsing. Since then, I have...

Can anybody testify about the best expected accuracy of a Browning BAR?

After being away from this site since 2007, I gave this topic a read-through. I concur with the preceding advice, and quote my Sainted Dad in suggesting that if your project is a good idea, it will still be one after diverting your attention to work on another project first. But mostly I think...

    Barrel temperature causing more pressure

I suspect the velocities will increase due to additional (heat) energy being transmitted from the enclosing chamber to the propellant. A load at temp x will contain a specific total energy. A load at temp x + y will contain more total energy, to the amount of temp increase roughly equal to y...

    Back again.

Whoa! Just read Gene Beggs' writeup on tuners and temperature. Temperature. Totally unexpected. Ohyeah, the temperature changed alright. Learned a ton in the first post I read, this reading stuff has something to it, I think I'll do some more... Mucho thankso. Greg

    Back again.

Wow, that was fast. OK, will do. I agree, something must be different. I also agree, the Armorall is doing something to the rubber, I think water would also work and work better. I have no means of metalworking, and really don't want to mess with that beautiful L-W barrel, so the rubber sleeve...

    Back again.

I did some testing with a some homemade tuners. There was apparent initial success, some rather spectacular. Then, nothing would work, and there was no rhyme or reason to it. After about 5 hours with two guns and nearly 400 ronds, I decided to stop flogging my guns and give up. My tuners were...
