    Bit of a Quandary

I had the opportunity to measure some of his cases this morning. Seems as though he was taught that the cases had to measure to exactly maximum case length. (2.015") He was also taught that you size and deprime the case(s), trim, then tumble and that tumbling can beat up a case so you resize the...

    Bit of a Quandary

I have been gunsmithing for 35 years. My work consists mainly of restoration on pre-1960's era machineguns. As favors for friends and neighbors I will work on their hunting guns and competition guns. (No benchrest.) Anyway, I re-barreled my neighbors Remington 788 a few months ago so he could...

    Ricochet at my range

I used to give machine gun demonstrations to clubs in my area. If you asked any of the members of these clubs about ricochets, they would say it was impossible because the bullets bury themselves in the berm. Part of my demonstration consisted of an 30-06 ANM2 loaded with a 150 round belts of...

    The Great Ammo Drought

I can't believe that those two million guns sold in the last two years went to "new" firearms owners who want the ammo for their "new" guns. Chances are most of those guns went to those who already own multiple guns and who "camp out" in front of WalMart and Cabela's for ammo.

    UPS vs USPS

Needed some parts that I could only find in Belgium. Between the Belgian post office and the USPS, the parts I ordered on Monday were here on Friday. Quit UPS 15 years ago for shipping my gun work. USPS registered takes a couple extra days but everyone that touches the package signs for it. UPS...

I don't post much ... just enjoy everyone else's thoughts, but, I couldn't help it with this thread. This is a great thread and have enjoyed everybodies choice of music. I like most anything blues and progressive rock the most (Tull, Kansas, Moody Blues etc.) but you guys aren't going back far...

    Phasing out

Spencer - That stuff is laboratory grade ... highly refined ... very expensive. Guns don't need that, they just contaminate the solution anyway. Farm grade is what I'm looking for ... I can blue guns, burn tree stumps and fertilize the tomatos all with the same stuff! AlinWa - If you're ever in...

    Phasing out

Spencer - I used to use Heatbath bluing salts but they were the first to stop selling to the small guy. They had a great product called Nickel Penetrate. I called to buy more from them one day in '91 or '92 and was told that the minimum order went from 25# to 500#. At gunsmith school we had a...

    Phasing out

Spencer - Haven't given up ... yet. But it is a pain looking for new sources after all these years. AlinWa - don't really need ammonium nitrate. Not out to blow anything up. Just want to blue some gun parts.

    Phasing out

Well, after 31 years of of making my living in the gun industry ... it looks as though the writing is on the wall and must phase out a portion of my business. I do mostly restoration work on older guns and have found and formulated many refinishing techniques that used to be found on the older...
