    Chrome Moly vs Stainless steel

Those chromoly actions are more popular than you may think. Just because its melonited, does not mean its ss. I also prefer cm.

    Carbide reamers..........

With insert tooling, carbide usually has a duller edge prep for durability. But with uncoated tooling like a chamber reamer the edge prep is very sharp, like hss. Theres no doubt it leaves a better finish in a chamber, but I do still prefer hss reamers. Handled correctly they last a long time...

Kelbly Actions What not to do to improve accuracy

That is a fact. So long as cocking cam helix is deep enough to accommodate that operation with out cocking piece nose bottoming out.

Kelbly Actions What not to do to improve accuracy

Like most things theres a right way and wrong way. When timed properly you maintain .240" and the factory spring. Pre-Drill & Boring A Chamber

Build a chuck that will hold the barrel by itself without NEEDING a spider. Dial it in with nothing touching the muzzle end, THEN snug the spider up only for support. If the barrel moves when you loosen up the spider, well, you were bending it.

    Seating off the lands

I have seen on many occasions where a shooter forgot powder and the primer did not push the bullet out of the neck. I have done it myself. My view on seating depth is that it acts similar to adjusting a tuner. In my opinion it varies the "effective" barrel length and related harmonics. Why...

    Line bbl channel on EDGE?

I have built and spec'd stocks in many degrees of stiffness. They are long range BR stocks. In my experience the stiffer stocks do not shoot any better than a flexible stock. I have a preference for some flex actually. I think it compensates better at longer range. For short range I do not...

    cutting through melonite??

The melonite on a Bat seems to run about .002" deep. I do notice the hardness, but with carbide its not an issue. I am surprised hss went through on yours.

Firing pin spring pressure in Bat Neuvo

Yes, 1.350 with a flat bottom, integral lug and rail. There have been some tweaks but basically the same action.

Firing pin spring pressure in Bat Neuvo

Jackie, if you want a heavier Neuvo, look at the Neuvo M. It was designed for long range, and is ideal for a drop port BR case in my opinion. Maybe a little more than you need for the ppc case but I dont know that it will slow you down much. The bolt stroke is .9" longer.

Firing pin spring pressure in Bat Neuvo

EXCELLENT post, I agree 100% with your pin fall and spring recommendations. All I can ad I like to see similar minimums along with any firing pin bind corrected which is all too common. Shooters just need to get over the stiffer bolt opening required with a well setup ignition. I also see...

Firing pin spring pressure in Bat Neuvo

Hi Jackie, I use a lot of these actions. I have about a dozen in the shop now Id guess. They should have about .245" pin fall with no cock on close. Id get a different trigger hanger. Your spring also seems light, from memory the ones I have checked are about 21lb is the cocked position. An...

    Bolt Lift

I re cut a lot of cocking cams, I have done it in about every popular Br action. Theres a lot in the geometry of that cam that can really smooth out the lift cycle. However I am usually doing it for a different reason, but not always. If you tell me what action you have, I can tell you if you...

Easiest way to true bolt face?

The method Mike Bryant showed is the best imo. I have used it to true bolts in very tight actions and achieve excellent lug contact. If you cant indicate just behind the lugs and in front of the bolt handle your making some assumptions.

    Does barrel straightness effect accuracy.

Im still a solid maybe. But not because the bore is drilled straight, rather why it drilled straight.

    Does barrel straightness effect accuracy.

I think you would find a lot of gunsmiths understand the barrel is not a simple curve. I "time barrels", because I have to put the runout somewhere. Its a consequence of making sure the chamber is coaxial to the first inch of bore directly in front of it. But like I said, I am really indexing...

    Does barrel straightness effect accuracy.

My opinion is maybe, but its not because of the straightness, but maybe because of why it drilled straight. The muzzle is always in front of the chamber even if we index the barrel. Remember the barrel always points at the target, we index the rifle behind it.

    Slugging new barrel blanks?

I have slugged a lot of barrels, and lapped a lot of them as well. Theres no doubt you can feel very small things with a lead lap or slug. I just dont know that I would ever send one back unless I felt something really bad. The reason I say that, is after all the different methods I have...

Disaster.....Barrel Galls in New Bat Action

I have had very good luck dripping moly d into galled threads and warming the joint. If you do it as soon as you think you felt something it will work with no damage. If its been forced, its too late.

Do you use the Sinclair competition rest?

This is a handy tool. https://fieldandcaveoutfitters.com/products/sinclair-competition-rest-wrench-free-shipping A lot of use could not get the knobs tight enough to eliminate movement. He also sells a picatinny style scope checker. I do not get any kickback from him, I actually bought a...
