    drilling in ss...untill it stopped

Not enough speed and too little feed pressure. You work hardened the hole bottom. Use the .155 carbide drill at max speed and high feed pressure. Oil is optional. Next time get some 303 or 410 SS and you won't have a problem. RWO

    solid carbide 90°end mill, HOW??

On size end mills for slotting have to be 2-flute. A 4-flute will flex and make an oversize slot every time unless the material is very soft. This is less of a problem with a short carbide end mill, but HSS is bad about it. Even if you use a 2-flute, the climb cutting side of the slot will be...

Very strange. I looked at MSDS for 5 different common brands of mineral spirits on line and none contained acetone. How about a URL? RWO

Shilen DGV/DGR and Savage bolt heads?

FWIW a .473 Savage bolt head will extract a PPC case if a slightly longer extractor is made up. Maybe a Shilen head will work the same way. RWO

I read somewhere that a Savage head will not fit a Shilen bolt. Sorry I have no idea where I read it. RWO

    Barrel tennon counterbore?

The Rem bolt head as designed will obturate and seal off in the barrel counterbore under high overpressure conditions. The factory counterbore is only .010" larger than the bolt head. Remington tested this obturating head and it was shown that it would protect the balance of the action from...

    Remington 521-T disassembley pdf

The left extractor is beveled to allow the case rim to be pushed forward by the ejector and then pivot on the right extractor hook and out of the action port to the right. The ejector is a fixed vertical blade that runs in a groove in the bolt bottom. Dual extractors are common on bolt, pump...

    Soldering a lug.

Make a hardwood dowel that fits the bore snugly and drive it in to cover the heat-affected zone plus about 3" either side. Solder the lug and drive the remains of the dowel out. You might need a bore brush to get all the wood combustion products out, but there should be no problem. RWO

    shilen competiton trigger dissembly

Remove it from the action and soak it in lacquer thinner, acetone, or MEK until it frees up. Flush with fresh solvent and blow dry with air. If it needs any lube at all, use small amount of Breakfree CLP. If this doesn't fix it then disassembly is the only answer. RWO

    Mill preferences (or Mill drill)

Belt drive with 3-phase motor. Get a aftermarket VFD ( single-phase input) to match ( $300 or less) This gives you wide range fingertip speed control with a quiet, smooth spindle drive and probably cheaper than a gear head. Increase in usability and convenience over any other drive cannot...

New lathe questions (chucks and QC setup)

QC tool posts are nice, just don't go cheap. Aloris and Dorian are the top US made choices. Of the imports, Phase II ( wedge) is well thought of in the hobbyist community. Most of my tool holders are Phase II and I use them on a Dorian post. They are properly hardened, cleanly machined and...
