    .338 Whisper?

charles, I was referring to the whisper parent case, that being the 221 fireball. The forward body dimension would be very close to a 338 bullet plus 2x neck thickness. Not much to headspace on. I'm not worried about " your" shoulder

Need Help with 30 BR Cases

The drill press thing falls short because now you have an issue with shell holder fit when priming and sizing in a die. If a case gets filed a bit to much and fails to extract during a match, shooting 9's is the least of your worries.

    I shouldn't have looked....borescope shock

I recall telling the owner of a brand new Montana rifle, that his barrel was rust pitted badly. Yup, its the borescopes fault

Would you buy a rifle scope from this guy?

When he sells all those scopes, he'll be selling used cars, or running for office

    6ppc chambering issues

Even in the event that you had no freebore, I can't see the need to pound bullets thru the neck with a mallet. As to using a 1/4 " drill bit to open up the donut, I think you will need some band-aids

Did a scope test. Results are bugging me.

I have indicated some scopes for forward and rear tube alignment. Its rare to find them real true. When the rings are tightened on the bases, it will tend to straighten the tubes. So, what you had as an optical center gets lost. Had these rings been bedded they migh not have shown as much error.

    700 bolt contact

In addition to the nylon plugs, which I have no doub't may minimize some vibrations, some work can be done on the cocking pc. Typically, I remove the cocking piece and stone away all the sharp edges which contribute to that little gouge in the trigger side plates. Some side plates are...

    VFS thread

No, not at all. Given a rounded forearm, it could not be shot free recoil, or looking over the scope. It would require a very even grip shot to shot. It would also allow improvements in precision loading. It sends no one home, or back to the gunshop. It also...

    VFS thread

Dick, I don't believe I am off topic. I believe Lou opened the door for improving the turnouts , by making this sport more attractive. I use the term Factory, but out of the box is full of problems. As you mention and I agree, some will go to no end to get that advantage. I have been on the...

    700 bolt contact

I would not be to concerned with wear at that point, as it never seems to amount to much. What Cheechako says about misalignment however is quite real. That misalignment is very common in factory Remingtons and causes the cocking piece to dig into the trigger side plates. In that...

    Secrets Of The Houston Warehouse

Just thinking AL,. Some years back, it was common to find a white compound on the threads of factory installed Barrels. As it was kinda tuff stuff, I doub't that it was thread sealer or anti seize. More like the locktite that is made for fasteners over 1" diameter. I...

    VFS thread

Cale, Absolutely, they are out there. Every single club in this country has a group of factory gun shooters who could be brought into group or score shooting. Most already reload and have done what they can to improve or try, because they love it. Should one from every other club...

    VFS thread

Group shooting also has sudden death. In last years Super shoot, I had a good warm-up and then shot a .500 with my second shot in match #1. Given that, I was now in 300th or so place. Its part of the game. No make up points. Somewhere in the match, all but the best that day fall by...

    Bullet Seaters

I have been making my own seaters for some time and find that by using a reamer with a neck about .001 smaller than chamber diameter, bullet allignment is greatly improved. Cases from a .262 chamber rarely emerge from a chamber at that dimension. They are then reduced further in the sizing die...

bush firing pin for me ?

You might also check the shape of the firing pin tip. It should be round, but a slightly larger radius than the diameter of the tip. Sharp or square can lead to similiar issues. Have seen many shapes on military guns.
