Getting a Glued in rifle stock painted

Has anyone had their glued in rifle stock painted? Was this easily done or were their issues? Can anyone recommend a good painter in or near Virginia. Thanks, Ed

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

Boyd, where is the brass bump gauge istalled? Is it inside the die? I don't see one in my Harrel die. Ed

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

Al, I go by the feel of how the bolt closes with the firing pin removed. I plan on getting the Sinclair bump gauge as well to get a more precise measurement. Thanks, Ed

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

One more maybe silly question, if I load and shoot the brass whos shoulder had been bumped too far back, will the firing correct the shoulder? Will the brass then extract out normally after firing at that time. I have a strong suspicion now, that too much bumping was the problem. I backed off...

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

Thanks Gentalmen, I will start with the shoulder bump and if that does not fix it, will have the extractor pin looked at. I will report the results. Thanks again, Ed

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

    No, it's a 6PPC only bolt. Ed

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

I have added photos of the bolt above. It does appear that the cases are being pushed in too far & the extractor hook is missing the rim. What is baffling is that its doing it with a lot of different cases. I have two Bat rifles, but I keep the brass separated. Thanks, Ed

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

Boyd, i was able to normally extract 2 pieces of brass and compared them to the ones that were not extracting. When I push these prices into the bolt, their is some play between the case and the extractor. The ones that don't have any play and fit tight, extracted normally. Is this a brass...

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

Sorry guys, it does not extract brass out of the chamber. The brass is not stuck in their hard because a 22 cal bullet will push it out, it seems that the bolt is somehow not helping in pulling it out. This has happened a few times intermittently on fired cases at the range as well. In the case...

Bat action 6PPC won't eject brass

My rifle has just developed this issue. I was testing some new brass that I had fire formed. If I load a piece of brass, it won't eject it. I tried old brass that worked fine in the rifle and it still won't eject it. I have to drop a 22 cal bullet from the muzzle to push the brass out. Can...

    Need for case annealing

Vern, that makes a lot of sense, the rifling was setting the consistent OAL in this case. Boyd, I learnt my lesson after messing up that brass. I now completely lube the inside of the neck and the mendral, in The past I was only lubing the mendral. I still use the drill but run it at very slow...

    Need for case annealing

I will throw in my newbie experience, I screwed up my first batch of PPC brass by case hardening it, I was using a drill setup going fast with a tight mandrel. My fired cases would barely hold a bullet. I was pulling bullets up in the case with my fingers at the bench & shooting, none of the...

    Weight system for the stock

I recently bought a used 6PPC Bat action rifle that has a Scarbrough stock with a weight system. Being new to the sport, can someone explain the merit of having this system? Currently I don't have the weights in the stock, should I put them in or leave it alone? Thanks, Ed

Crosshairs moving up after the shot

Wayne, I use the Sinclair competition front rest, it's very heavy. I use the Edgewood front bag. Good luck at the range! Ed

Crosshairs moving up after the shot

Well this morning at the range I applied all the great advise provided by all of you including, setting the rear bag, setting the stock deep in the bags and not using the front stop. I am happy to report that my rifle tracked beutifully. The cosshairs returned to targets as the rifle was pushed...

Crosshairs moving up after the shot

Boyd and Wilber thanks for the pointer on the front stop. I will try shooting without using it. Being new to the game, I assume since it's on the front rest, one has to use it. Thanks everyone for the great advise, have learnt a lot from all the ideas provided. Ed

Crosshairs moving up after the shot

Thanks Jerry, I have one of the DR bags that I had them custom make for a thick stock F Class rifle I used to have. It's a flat top, the distance between ears is 1". I had them fill it when I got it, it's extremely heavy. I will give it a try this weekend. The distance between the ears is bit...

Crosshairs moving up after the shot

Jerry, you are right about the Minigater and the bench, it does not have a cutout large enough where I can get behind it. I have to awkwardly move my neck and the bag sits right at the edge of the bench. Sitting directly behind the bag would mean sitting on the White ceasefire line, is that ok...
