Trouble finding accurate load for Remington 223 5R

IMO you don't need 65 in lbs. on the action if its bedded right. 30-35 on the front , 20-25 rear.

    .223 questions

Coopers would do you just fine, the 50/52/53 do really well. For 300 I normally use 55s. Cooper no longer twist 14 in the model 21 in 223. Its now a standard 12. I have one w/12 twist and it works good for me. The Savage route aint bad either though.

    243 winchester

Using this criteria from the OP, my advice would be to buy any standard Varmint. Remmy, Savage, or whichever one trips your trigger and fits budget. Go with the 223 caliber. Light recoil, and more than enough accuracy to keep you in the mix at local matches in the ranges you have specified. DR

    .223 load ideas

26.5 grs H 335, Sierra 52 MK works very well indeed in my 223 cooper. 332 was just as good, as was benchmark. But it seems to come down to that 335 load that is the most consistant all the time. DR

    25 Cal 9 Twist Barrel?

Probably due to the fact that a 10 twist at 24" will stabilize the heaviest common bullets in 257 which is a 120gr. DR

Got these BR targets off the net, You would have to enlarge for 200 yrds, but they work very well at 100. DR

    22/250ai Verses 220 Swift

Hey Murphy, not really into the ultra fast loads. The one I loaded was just for the fun of it. I was looking at 40 gr loads for a 223, and saw that Accurate had a load for the SWift that was 4415 fps. So being the curious guy that I am, I just happened to have some 2700 and 40 gr Sierras. Well...

    22/250ai Verses 220 Swift

Actually, P.O. did play with the Swift AI. The 220 Weatherby Rocket was produced, but still as was found, the bullets and the powder of the time didnt give enough of a performance boost to justify the extra 10% powder capacity. In fact I believe Ackley stated the Swift was perfect for taking...

    .220 Swift Powder...

Yep, I do like the AA2700. It works real well in all the normal bullet weights. This last weekend I loaded up some 40gr sierras in my 223, but thought I would try them in my Swift just to see what they would do. Accuracy wasnt up to par (.6) but, 40gr Sierra, CCI BR primer 46 grs AA2700 (1 gr...

    Best bullet for a .243?

I have an ADL of that same flavor, the 70 to 75 gr BTs, SMK, seemed to due just fine for informal matches to the ranges stated. Varget or H 4895 are dandys for powder with those bullet weights. DR

    .220 Swift Powder...

Saw this post has been updated recently, and used this quote for a reason. Since my last installment on this, My Cooper in the Swift has had to be rebarrelled, and my powder of choice has changed. H-380 is no longer in the mix, great powder, 52SMK @ 4050 fps, max load, and CCI BR primer took...

A question on seating depth for varmint rifles.

You got this post right, No need for fireproof undies from me. All of my factory rifles i.e rem, win, ruger, all like anywhere form 35 to 45 thou jump, my exceptions are my coopers that like between 3 and 15 thou depending on weight of bullet and velocity. My cooper in 220 swift likes 3 thou on...

    Cooper 52?

got a pair of em, Just not a 52, as I said earlier far to good of wood and too pricey for a hunting gun. Mine shoot lights out, and are well made and fitted. You wont be sorry you bought one! DR

    Cooper 52?

Good rifles, and from what Ive seen they do shoot. A bit pricey to be carrying in the field. IMO buy a remmy or savage in 25.06 and save the money. I Did. 700 BDL in 25.06 shoots damn good, and doesnt cost 2 Grand. DR

    Keyholeing Problem with Remington 22-250

Gary, Sorry but getting ready to go on a hunt, not alot of time to shoot. Went out and got some nosler 55 gr BT, still got sierra 55 BK, and a bunch of 52 sierra match. Will run a test with both the 250 and the swift. I plan on running data as to velocity and seating depth. The book you are...

    Keyholeing Problem with Remington 22-250

Gary, I have a #1 V stainless in 22.250, and a Cooper in 220 Swift, both with 1 in 14 twist. The swift digests the 55 gr Sierra Blitzkings extremely well low to mid 2s for 5 shot groups in 3 diffrent nodes, 3300, 3500, and 3750 fps. The 22.250 will also shoot these extremly well, but likes to be...

    trigger options

Butch, If one never intends on taking the rifle in the field, under adverse conditions where one might get cold fingers, or wear gloves then the trigger pull is great. For shooting off the bench only, Great, but IMO that light is totally unsafe for any thing else. Period. Dont know why you...

Are neck bushing dies available? No, But dies are available from RCBS and Redding. With a tight chamber, is a full length die needed? First time after fire forming Yes, then after Not really. What are the quirks with this cartridge? Should be easier to work with as you have a longer body...
