Isabella County Sportsman's Club 100 Yd Group Shoot Next Saturday, June 24, 2017!

The latest weather report says that our current rain will stop soon and we will have sunshine this afternoon and tomorrow morning. They're forecasting more precep later tomorrow... hopefully after we get done shooting. It looks like we will have a break long enough to get the match in and head...

    .222 loads

FWIW this was the inspiration for my .222. This gun has belonged to a friend for a few years but has been here a good part of the time. My pal has some wonderful rifles but won't shoot them. A couple of years ago he asked me to shoot this just to see what it would do. This gun, probably made in...

    .222 loads

Andy, if I were interested in being really competitive my gun would look like your's. When I started this project I wanted two things... I wanted art and I wanted to see just how well a gun like this could be made to shoot. Whilst art is very subjective, I like the way this came out. After...

    .222 loads

I got to shoot it this AM. Started at 22.0 gr. of the Isreali 2015. No pressure and round groups. Worked up to 23.4 gr. and got some vertical. 23.1 gr. was just fine. At 23.4 gr. the primer is a little flatter and there is no evidence of a crater. Had to quit and go to town. I'll shoot more this...

Lonnie, That's a Unertl. When I got it I sent it to a guy in Ohio who repairs Unertls... he once worked at the factory. He told me it was made in 1940. It's an eight power. I'm thinking about sending it out this winter and getting it bumped to 12X and getting a 1/2 minute dot. Don't bother...

FWIW... the other side of my new "bench" gun. I think I can look good losing with this. The color is washed out a bit here by the flash.

    .222 loads

Thanks, guys. I've been googling for a few days and I have more sensible answers here than I've managed to find elsewhere. I'm mostly interested in a safe starting load. I can take it from there. Based on everything I've found, I will start with 22.0 gr. of the good 2015, examine the first case...

Lonnie, FWIW this is my new bench gun. Been working on it for two years and finally got it done. Kinda retro. I'm having fun shooting this. I don't expect to be really competitive but, at my age, don't care. I just want to make it shoot as well as I can. Dick

Lonnie, Thanks. Do you remember what load you used when you started with the 2015? I have a couple of 8 lb. jugs of the Isreali 2015 made around 1990 - 1991 and no 133. I'd really like to try it. I have plenty of Bart's 52 gr. bullets. They have always been my bullet of choice for .22's. Dick

    .222 loads

Has anyone used AA 2015 in the .222? I've been told by a couple of old timers that should know that the highest velocity in a duece would come from 2015. Anybody actually tried it? Thanks, Dick Wright

    My new benchrest rifle...

After a couple of days of shooting I decided to rub another coat of finish on the stock. It will be in the vise for a couple of days till it's perfectly dry. I have a hundred cases that need cleaning and sizing whilst I wait... next match is Saturday. Lots to do.

    My new benchrest rifle...

Isabella County Sportsmans Club BR matches... Michigan shooters... pay attention. Our matches are centrally located just west of Mt. Pleasant. We like to think that they are friendly, fair and fun. We give better than normal prizes this year since Jay's Sporting Goods decided to sponsor us...

    My new benchrest rifle...

"Custom touches"... Everything is new except the action, even the trigger. It was a .458. 12X is a compromise. I may want to take it in the field and try to get a woodchuck or two. We have no rules in our matches that specify scope power. Our general rule is.. "If it looks like a benchrest...

    My new benchrest rifle...

Wringing it out starts today. I have to fireform the rest of the brass, set up the size die and start load work-up. (Neil Jones charged me a ton for that die.) The gun showed a lot of promise Saturday till the wind started blowing 20 mph, gusts to 32 mph. (per the weather channel.) I haven't...

    My new benchrest rifle...

Matt Dardas took this pic at the first match I shot it in. All my shooting "stuff" fits in the back of the little red car with the handicapped plates.

    My new benchrest rifle...

It was wet sanded after finishing. I'm going to hand rub a couple of coats of Gun Savr on the stock when I'm done fire formimg brass and have done load work up. When that's done I will have time to put the finish on and wait for two or three days for each coat to dry. There a few details that...

Results of the Isabella County Sportsman's Club 100 Yd Score Shoot 6-10-2017

FWIW this is my new "Bench gun". Kinda unorthodox. I've been working on it for two years. This was it's first match. I only had a day and a half to prepare and was fire forming brass. Hope to do better next match. I told Matt before the match that he should put me in a new class... the "Culture...
