McMillan benchrest record question from a history buff

Back in 1997 I was in Phoenix with the Australian Team for the WBC. A bunch of us went to McMillan's and were shown the actual rifle that shot the record group. I even got to hold it! By modern standards it looked pretty basic, but obviously it sure did shoot!

In Australia, the 2-Gun is based upon the light and heavy classes. The 2-Gun adds the sporter class, which down under is a 9 pound outfit.

we need a humor forum.....until then

Three guys roll up at a motel up in the mountains late in the day. The receptionist explains that they only have one room left which has only a queen size bed in it. They take it, and carefully turn in for the night. Next morning the guy on the left hand side says, man I had the weirdest dream...

    Arnold Jewell has passed on...

Another sad loss to the benchrest community. I was introduced to Arnold at the NBRSA Nats at Phoenix in 1997. Somebody told him that I was pretty good at telling Aussie jokes and so we had quite a few sessions together. My memory is fading a bit now but I do recall the two of us entertaining the...

Benchrest Heavy Class and Tapered barrels (information required)

Mike, I have been to seven WBC's on the Australian Team and I have never taken a heavy barrel to the event - even for the two in Australia. The main reason is the weight concern when flying, and having been hit up by Qantas on the way back from NZ in 2017, it's a real problem. My Pelican box...

    Firing pin protrusion

What is considered to be the maximum firing pin protrusion for a Remington bolt? A friend has a Rem 700 in 22 PPC and it occasionally punches through the primer. The load is below maximum. The action (Rem 40XBBR) has been blue printed and a smaller firing pin (0.064) fitted. As near as I can...

we need a humor forum.....until then

A man is drinking at a bar, when a very attractive blonde lady in quite a skimpy dress moves in next to him. "Mmmmm, she said, you smell nice....what have you got on?" To which he replied.. "Actually I've got a hard on, but I didn't know you could smell it!"

G'day mate....I'd like to see that!

    Primer cup hardness

Well down here in Australia it looks as though there might be another primer shortage coming up. So...to settle an argument...which primers have the hardest cups? I have a small supply of a number of brands. I normally use 205M's for competition work, and either Fiocchi or standard 205's in my...

    Dan Opel

A real shock to hear this. I met Dan at the WBC in Canada last year. What a nice guy! All of the Australian team had dealings with him for their powder and bits and pieces. I am sure that he will be sorely missed. Condolences to the family Brendan Atkinson

we need a humor forum.....until then

A young and somewhat timid man was admitted to hospital with a badly upset stomach complaint. As he lay in his bed on the fifth floor the spasms suddenly caused him to empty his bowels unfortunately in the bed. Terrified and embarrassed, he rolled up the sheet and tossed it out of the window...

we need a humor forum.....until then

Police manning a random breath test station pulled in a car driven by an attractive blonde. "Blow in this until I tell you to stop" She does so and the cop looks at the reading and says "Wow, looks like you have had a couple of stiff ones tonight" Oh dear she says....can it tell that too?

list of known good lots of n133 ??

There is no importer of N133 in Australia at the moment. Fortunately, I managed to score a couple of six packs of N133 2009 some time ago. These are one kilo bottles (about 2.2 pounds). Shoots well in my guns with around 29.8gns. When we went to the WBC in NZ back in 2017, they had Vit but it...

I do not want scare anyone

Not that long ago I was at a Nationals here in Australia and a bunch of us were having a few beers after the shoot. I started to laugh and when they asked why I said: You know, we all used to talk about seating depths, powder charges, the best barrel twist, etc etc and now we discuss which...

The Benchrest community is very diminished.

A very sad loss. Tony and Faye walked into the Four Points Motel in Calgary and she gave me a big hug - she always remembered that we shot next to each other at the WBC in Brisbane in 1995. A lovely lady taken too soon. My condolences to Tony and family. Brendan Atkinson

    Super shoot

WOW! You would have to be a bit stiff to shoot a .056 group and have someone pip you in a yardage. Great shooting there.
