45x Leupold too much power for F-Class

Manitou210, As I wrote in post # 9, "To each his own..." I shot in Connaught in 2000, 2002 and 2006. Always with a 12-42x on 42. Attached is photo after 66 shot shootoff at 700 meters during 2002 FCWC. Disregard date on photo caption, was edited then. No problems at any time for me. Hope...

45x Leupold too much power for F-Class

Seb & Ryan, I think you are trying to apply/discuss BR techniques and attitudes to LR F-Class. While it has been called belly BR it has too many difference to be call BR anything. We don't have a mothball or square to use for aiming marks. We have a 44" diameter black bull with very thin...

45x Leupold too much power for F-Class

Al, You can argue with me at any time. I never said I had the answer, just that it seems to work for me. I think there is some truth to what Gail wrote. March I understand sends an f-stop lens cap ( has a hole in the center) with some of their scopes to do just what he wrote. I made one for...

45x Leupold too much power for F-Class

Ryan, I am not a scientist so I won't try to get technical. I agree that mirage distorts the target. Since that distortion comes from the air density/temperature differences between the firing line and the target I believe it does not go away when you turn the power ring down. When you turn...

45x Leupold too much power for F-Class

German/Tiny68, To each his own...I shoot 12-42x NF's and the only time I turn the scope down is when I am initially set up the rifle on my firing point. I hold off and don't use the knobs. To my way of thinking the mirage is there even if you can't see it when you turn the scope down. The...

    Starting new F-Class in Pa

You people back east really have it hard. I am smack dab in the middle of some of the best F-Class shooting in the country. It is 450 miles west to Phoenix and 450 miles north to Raton, NM, if I want to shoot any F-Class. I feel for you :) I just couldn't resist.

Cost of building F open and F/TR, is there much difference

Arizona78 Build what you want! Do not build a rifle based on what costs less. Assuming you are planning on building a top level competitive rifle there should be little difference if any change in the cost. Look at it this way. The action, trigger, rings, barrel, stock and scope cost the...

    Prieming Tool

I had a look at the 21st Century tool at the 2011 F-Class Nationals. http://www.21stcenturyshooting.com/Priming_Tool.php I came a way impressed. Larry Bartholome

    My new stock, your thought?

Seb, You have one minor problem with your forend attachment when shooting F-Class. The International rules require a width of 76mm or less. See rule F2.14 in http://www.icfra.co.uk/FCRules_2009.pdf You are a man of many ideas. Keep it up. I love my SEB Neo. Larry Bartholome

Tall or low stocks for F-Class?

Stocks twentytwoguy, To get back to your original post, the low stocks were developed to lower the CG and hopefully cause recoil to come straighter back. You do not want to use your elbows to compensate for a difference in stock height. You adjust for the stock using your rear bag and/or...

Tall or low stocks for F-Class?

Rod, My first 1k BR/FC rifle back in 1999 was a plastic McMillan MBR in 6BR. The second was the same type. My 3rd was a McMillan F-Class (low Rider). The 4th was a Shehane MRB (wood) and the 5th and last is the one in the photos. I guess I changed because that happened to be the newest thing...

How important is 1/8 MOA adjustments for F class shooting

Get the 1/8 MoA Adjustments Worker, I have to disagree with Ray. The better F-Class shooters can tell the difference in a 1/8th moa click at 1,000. If you watch the group as it starts to develop a 1k and it is a bit high I might not want to come down a full ¼, but I will come down an 1/8...

Need A Scan for a Scope Manual

Bill Ackerman was my Silhouette shooting partner back in the late 70's to early 90's. He was the man who designed the original T-models. When he got the OK to build a target scope he realized since he was relatively new to target shooting he need help. So he got 6-8 of the best El Paso, TX...

    Questions for newbie

Tiny68, Our rules come in two sizes:-) One is our High Power rules which can be found at http://www.nrahq.org...R/hpr-index.pdf The F-Class section is Section 22. Anything not covered there is in some other part of the book. The book also covers our NMC's which are offhand, sitting RF, prone RF...

    6xc

Kodzoff, While the 6.5x47 would certainly work well I feel the 6mm's on average just work a bit better at the shorter ranges. I fell there is a good bit of truth in "less recoil = smaller groups/higher scores". This applies particularly to new shooters. When you are laying down all day and...

    6xc

Rick, I prefer not to use wildcat cases and the Dasher looks like too much work for me to deal with for the 500+ cases I would need. The 6.5x47 case came out after I had my 6XC barrels made. If it had been out, I would have went with the 6/6.5x47 instead.
