Rem 700 vs Ruger 77 Action for build

There is! But it's in USBR rimfire competition. You could go to a match with $200.00 in your pocket, claim a rifle shooting in the "plinker" class, mount your scope and shoot the next relay with it. Maybe the NBRSA/IBS needs a class like that? PS. Burris 8-32 This forum had me so confused about...

    New Forum

That’s because this forum needs a "match results" sub-forum to replace the one at the bottom of the main page. :) There have been some very good on-topic competition related discussions here though, and they'd be buried on page 39 of the other forum by now. I do like the rule change discussions...

    Pillar bed without the goop

My opinion is: That wood’s going to move, but those pillars aren’t. I’d recess the pillars about .005 to .010” on the action side, but let them have full contact on the trigger guard side.

I'm sure I do and I could be wrong, my comments were from 10+ year old memory, back when I was looking for a long range laser rangefinder and found that 5mW was it. So don’t count on my memory, go here and check it out for yourselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_safety The >5mW lasers...

    Picture of Johnnie's "Little Group"

Congratulations!! But are you sure it wasn’t hung upside down like McMillan’s group!? :D Beautiful target! Care to share the equipment used? Jim :)

Vibe, Because I’m a helpful happy go lucky kind of guy that often walks across the range to help friends & fellow shooters position their flags. Then someone usually walks across the range to help me position mine (while I‘m looking through my scope to check the height). But from this thread...

    green laser

How does anyone who’s walked downrange when a range was declared safe even reply to that? Are you saying we cant trespass on someone else’s firing lane? It’s very unfortunate that we have so many laws in this country (ones enforced by the police), but over the years I’ve come to understand why a...

    green laser

I don’t want to be a kill-joy or anything, but here it is in a nutshell. How can you “safely” fire a high-power, non eye-safe laser into a crowd of people setting flags? And who’s going to be the first to carry one down-range and sweep 30+mw through someone’s scope objective while they‘re...

    green laser

Yes that’s exactly the way to do it. I was at a match were a child was pointing one of those >5mw unsafe illegal things at shooters between relays for giggles, and I find this thread appalling.

NBRSA & the proposed Varmint for Score format

Ok, I should quit while I’m behind but this question is just to obvious not to ask. Then why don’t you? Won’t IBS sanction your range?

NBRSA & the proposed Varmint for Score format

Just one of my frequent post wording problems. :o I thought the comma would work and show what my preference is when it comes to registered matches, but dropping the word “score” from that sentence would have been better.

NBRSA & the proposed Varmint for Score format

Why not just order three different sized targets to keep things in line with the nice “fair for everyone” way that groups are measured? If you plan on bumping membership by attracting factory varmint shooters, you should probably order a few 20-cal targets too, just incase you haven’t noticed...

A Question About Rifles at the World Finals

Actually Jackie, you own a Sporter legal Light Varmint rifle. If sporter rules (weight, caliber, scope, stock) change in the future, you will still own a legal "6PPC Light Varmint rifle". The 6PPC is also a wonderful live “varmint” caliber, but if you want to “score” something bigger than a...

    50 & 100 yard tuner tuning?

MKnarr, Thanks for sharing your experience, it gives me a lot to think about. Tuners and test lots cost about the same, and test lots wouldn’t bump my custom to unlimited. Jim

    50 & 100 yard tuner tuning?

Gimme a break Snoman… And dad’s hard enough to beat the way it is. I’ll paint his shop and mill parts for his tractor, but he isn’t getting my good ammo! Bill Wynne, If its anything like the center fire testing I did when I was serious about 100-200 CF/BR, the center of accuracy...

    50 & 100 yard tuner tuning?

Just to set the stage, I shoot the sporter & custom class at club matches where tuners are not allowed. We shoot almost an equal amount of 50 and 100 yard matches during the year, frequently both yardages at the same match. I’m thinking about getting a gun for the unlimited class where tuners...

    What did I miss

Not discussed here much but changing ambient light intensity can cause havoc too. Some days carefully watching the broken cloud cover for a consistent lighting condition is as important as reading the flags, or messing with the powder measure.

Factory class etc... aka "leveling the field"

Make it worst edge scoring, but just hand each competitor a blank piece of target paper and let them draw there own circles with a felt-tip pen. The more circles the higher the potential score. Let them choose templates ranging from soda straws to fender washers to coffee cans, but all circles...
