    We Remember

Hunter, I'm guessing that L.E. has been gone for so long (40 years) the folks now running the business never knew him. When I meet him in 1970, he was pretty much retired. I did make a trip to Cashmere and got the full tour or the shop area, as well as his personal shop separate from the...

    322 powder

I have been shooting 1990's vintage H-322 (not extreme) in my BR rifles, and it shoots quite well. In HV I finished 4th @ 100 yds, 3rd @ 200 yds and 3rd in the grand agg. last weekend in Tacoma. Load was 28 gr. with a 65gr bullet in a 6ppc. R.G. is right about the density, 28 gr. of 133 fills...

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

Logan, You will find the typical bullet shot in a 30 BR slow twist will shoot quite well in a 12. R.G. Robinett confirmed that for me, shooting short bullets in a 14 twist of mine that worked quit well. There is no reason to think the 12 twist will not work. Maybe R.G will chime in here with...

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

Logan, You could actually have the 1.5 308 rechambered to a 30 BR. I think the only real difference between the two is the shoulder angle, and maybe the neck diameters. There are reasonable $ dies available for the 30 BR, and it is a very popular cartridge these days. FWIW Steve Kostanich

I bought 2 gigantic heavy old bench rifles

Your two rifles appear to be late '60's early '70's restricted class BR rigs . Back then NBRSA had two Unlimited classes, restricted and unrestricted. the restricted rifles had to be shot from conventional sand bag set ups, while the unrestricted could be shot from a return to battery rest. The...

    Freedom benchrest

Old M-1Shooter My intention with the stock rule change was to stimulate experimentation in stock design for BR shooting. If the old NBRSA rule is used in Freedom, you cannot determine if a stock is legal until AFTER the rifle is in finished form. Example: BAT makes br actions in three lengths...

    Rebated Boat Tails???

Just some info on how one ole tool and die make made BT bullets. In 1970 I had a chance to visit L.E. Wilson at his shop in Cashmere, WA. Got the full tour, and ended up in his personal bullet making/shooting tunnel room.! Yes he actually had a 100 yd tunnel to test in!!! Anyway he showed me how...

    Freedom benchrest

Louie, How about making these two long needed rule changes? " The varmint class rifle stock shall be no wider than 3" at any point measured at right angle to the bores centerline." no other constraints!! or another version "The varmint rifle class stock may be of any configuration as long as...

    Hall Rail

Old thread, but a couple of comments anyway! Back when I started BR the 2 piece rear was it for UNL class. In fact there was actually two UNL classes, restricted and unrestricted. The restricted gun had to be shot off sand bags just like a varmint rifle, unrestricted anything for rest a BUT two...

Recommended freebore for 68grs FB Bergers / 6PPC?

For a PPC, the length of the freebore depends on three things, the length of the bullet, the ogive of the bullet and if the bullet is flat base or boat tail. Short and boat tail bullets need a shorter FB, like .030"-.040" Pointer ogives may need it too. I have three PPC reamers with .045",.060"...

    Reamer Free Bore Recommendation

R.G. You are spot on with freebore diameters. All my 6mm (PPC and BR) recent reamers have a .244" freebore diameter. I have two 6mm point up dies that make a bullet diameters just under (like .0003") .244", and it also works just fine with bullets made from another point up die that are .2432"...

    Twist rates for 6br

RG, Yes the bullets I fired the .204" agg with were 3 groups with a .790" jacketed bullet and 2 groups with a .750" jacket. Sure wish Berger still supplied the .750" jackets! I have one bucket left. Steve Kostanich

    Twist rates for 6br

Just put a 14" twist on my 6 BR short range rig. In initial testing, just guessing at a starting load, I fired a 5 group agg @ 100 yds of .2044. Felt pretty good about it. Load was 30 gr. of 3032, my 65 gr. bullets and Br-4 primers, Lapua cases. Yes RG that 3032 stuff is OK!!! A 13.5 or 14...
