Why do I have to log in each time that I visit Benchrest Central? This just began yesterday. Thanks, JD Mock

Have you 'checked' the small "Remember Me" box above the 'log in' box before signing in?

The remember me box...

will keep a cookie on your computer so it recognizes you when you connect. Have you done any file clean ups lately or edited your Internet settings?

Dennis..

Thanks, I have checked the "Remember Me"box, but still must log in each time. Also, I did clean up some bad files and potential viruses yesterday. James

James...

You have to allow cookies, also, for it to remember you.

There are some of us who, because of some perversity of Wilbur's site or his ISP or our ISP or the ambient temperature...... can't be attached to the remember me facility. Don't know if it's the same with the rest, but the IE facility of recording logins & passwords doesn't trigger on this site for me either.

....and, the software automatically dumps my cookies for this site alone when I exit, so the remember me wouldn't likely be worth a bucket of beans anyway.

All I can suggest is to use Firefox for your browser and it has a pop up you can check that saves the name and the password for the site you sign into...
it appears when you have typed the name and password in... you have a few choices of what to do...

While we are on the subject !

I have logged in and tried to reply to posts and when I click the reply button it jumps to a screen that says that I am not logged in ?

This web site times you out if it deems that you are inactive for more than a specified time. Apparently typing into a message box is not recognised as activity.

To avoid being timed out, always type your messages in the advanced message option & regularly click on the preview post button.

If I click "remember me" each time..............

I sign in, I'll remain signed in; if not, I have to sign in 4-5 times in one visit. As far as "cookies" go, for me they are a pain, as things begin to "time out", then eventually I find I've got the barnacles of 6 to 8 cookies, maybe a slug, or bug, too. So, I scrape 'em off, again. I DON'T appreciate the cookies, from ANYWHERE, because where I go is my own business!! If I were to spy on anyone, you could bet, someone would have me, or any one of us up on charges. Why, just because there is a company, corporation, or any other entity that wants to do this.... its okay; and someone tells me I HAVE TO allow this, or I cannot play. I want to use the web, and patronize whomever I wish, without someone having the right to "target" me, or with their advertising, because I have to allow them, like some LEECH, to decide how to get me to give them the green. But, that's just me, y'know how it is......... Good thing we don't have "the finger" amongst those smilies :D:D I bet that button'd get wore out purty quick, just signalin' those "cookies" (what a word for a PITA). :) I don't mind this site, if I did I wouldn't come back, and I am not complaining about this site. I have that attitude on the web in general, I don't think anyone should have to put up with being ambushed just because somebody wants to turn me into an "impulse buyer", because I've never been one and won't become one; I regard those tactics as insulting. I feel that practice ought to be abolished, and any company caught stooping to that, needs to be put off the web for two years, next time, six. It'd be hell if everybody had to act on the up and up if they wanted to market their goods. WOW!! What a concept, Honesty!  Truth In Advertising!?! ;)

I agree

I dislike cookies in general. Some of them are innocuous as this forum cookie is...or is meant to be. As I understand, the cookie used by this forum software keeps track of login info, last login and whatever is needed to support preferences.

Now and again, cookies get confused and need to be removed for the "remember me" to work properly. There may be new factors in play and I'll take a look.
