Who was Alvin Davidson?

Was setting in the shop this evening and looking at the best of the west 2-gun trophy.
Would like to know a little bit of history if possible.

Al Davidson was a long time benchrest shooter from Las Cruces, NM. He had a machine shop there and made a lot of the gadgets we used. In later years he sold them through Sinclair's. Davidson 1/2" dovetail bases, the aluminum pliers type bullet pullers and probably made more action sleeves than just about anyone. Not to mention the Davidson barrel vise and action wrenches. Not sure when he passed away. One of his last biggest wins was winning the Crawfish once when it was at Lafayette shooting a .22 Waldog and using Guy Wilson's bullets.

Here is a picture of the late Mr. Davidson....taken at Tomball Texas in about 2002 or 2003. He was one of our icons of Benchrest shooting. James

I met Alvin about mid 80's we were down at the Crawfish and there was Phil Sauer, Dwight Scott. I think his name was Jerry, Gary Hayes, myself, and Alvin. We were at a trapshooting thing mabob. I was in awl because I had used his sleeves and single shot followers and everything he made, I think, and I finally got to meet him, only to find out he was one of us. Nice and quiet, I say that for you James, EH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alvin and his wife loved western swing dancing. They never missed the opportunity. He was a very honest and easy person to be around.

That's the thing

about being a "newer" shooter. I have only shot BR since 2004. I like hearing about the history of the people that have shot for years and years. And alot of them have passed on and then you hear about what they have done for the sport.

I remember seeing a picture at the Zink ranch and the range that was there. Seeing Larry Baggett, Jim Kelbly and others from back in the day. I'm glad to have the opportunity to visit with the ones that are still here.

Larry, you looked good back then :) I do miss Wayne Blacketter, we had alot of good times together.

Alvin was pioneer in the benchrest world, a craftsman and a gentleman. He was one of many I wish I had gotten to know better before their passing.
